The innate history of man proves this. We always look outside of ourselves for something divine to believe in...and...that is fine and good and right. Now, a thing we are agreement in...we are ALL a part of God. God lives within us all, but to say we are God...is...well...stupid. You may be a Guru...you may be a Master/Mistress...but in Zen, if all the student comes to learn and understand as reality...is what the teacher teaches...then the teacher has failed. Teachers/Gurus/Masters/Mistresses are not allowed ego. Ego is the failure of man. The wish to be known for what we know, is self serving. There is no place for this in yoga, or life in general. Guest guest
Dear Nancy and Everyone, Thank your for the beautiful letter. Yogi Bhajan says the biggest problem re God is that we are taught that God is outside ourselves. We can't get it until we turn our attention to the experience of ourselves. We each are a unique expression of God. > Christianity likes us to believe that the Father, the Pope, your priest, > your minister, God, confession, and all the other symbols, will save me as I > do little but have blind faith and believe that in the end, I will be > saved. This belief makes God a separate entity in the universe, having > divine control, and making all the decisions as s/he sees fit for me. This > is taking an inactive back seat to faith that never felt right to me. This is a belief, not an experience. The age of Aquarius is about experience. The age of Pices was about belief. We are making the transition now. We can see this even in this discussion. > My teacher taught her class, and was also instructed by her teacher (Yogi Bhajan ) , that for those with trouble believing in God to think of it in this way: G is for > the generation of life and beginnings, O is for placing life in order, and D > is to destroy past negative patterns, making us ready for the next > generation all over again. Isn't that the cycle with KY, generate new > thoughts, place them in order, and destroy old outmoded ways? I also like to think of the D as delivery. We can use the G and the O energy either to destroy what is no longer relevant or to deliver results. There are many ways to experience God. One way is to "Honor Thyself." for we each embody the Divine and are very special beings. When we honor ourselves we discover what we came here to deliver. My New Millennium prayer for each of you is that you truly honor yourself this year, get in touch with your unique gifts and use G O D to make your unique contribution to the world. Guest guest
Hello, I must respond. This is good. A lively and thought provoking discussion. "It is true that we are ALL are part of God," Marsha26 wrote in a post. With this I agree, but more must be added. I am sure that this or things similiar to this have been written, stated, said, or otherwise used, but I like the analogy. Take water to be all of creation; plants, animals(humans included), rocks, trees, birds, everything. Add God, in whatever form (or nonform) that you wish, as salt. Blend together (shaken, not stirred) and now you have salt water, a completely homogenous substance of the two aforementioned ingredients. Now, bear with me; who can, God or creation, separate the one (assuming complete dissolving takes place) from the other. You can't. Now completing the analogy, neither can you separate God from creation, or creation from God. They are one and the same. As perfect from inside, to perfect from outside. So, yes, God is outside us, but God is also inside us, because God is us. To realize this, with understanding, is a wonderful thing. But, be cautious; "he who says, 'I know the Self", does in fact not know. Go back and continue meditating." No teacher has failed who has created compassion and gotten a student to look inwardly. It is then up to the student to discern what they find there. If it is the answer they have been looking for, then great. If not, and they keep on looking, two things are true; one, the teacher is indeed a teacher, for they have created within the student a quest for knowledge, and two the student has become their own teacher as well, for they have able to discern what is true for themselves. Viveka. This is a fantastic group. I hope everyone enjoyed their New Year/New Millineum celebrations. Brightest Blessings, Adam
