Guest guest
I have to disagree with Sri Param. I have known devout agnostics and atheists as well as people who didn't care whether or not there is a god, all of whom practiced kundalini yoga. We are not tiny islands (unless that is what we choose to be), we are all part of something larger. Yoga and Buddhism are philosophies...ways of living--not religions. Both are tools to help us to "become more than we are." No philosophy or religious sect is an "end all be all." What do we want? How do we want to live? Are there any questions more important than these? These two little questions shape us...and no others. Marsha
Guest guest
Although I believe in a divine spirit, I also do no think it is necessary for a Kundalini experience, or to practice Kundalini Yoga or any other form of Yoga. However, I can't help think that something would be "missing" without it. Pamela P. pamela "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye." Guest guest
>Question? Is your "reality" based on belief or experience? Or both? Which comes first? I am new to this wonderful list and maybe I shouldn't jump in right ahead, but I hope you can bear with me. I know this question wasn't for me, but this reminded me of the opening lines of the Dhammapada: "We are what we think. With our thoughts we make the world". This is somebody's subjective reality. You can experience the world as you believe it to be. I definitely think that you live in the world you choose to live in. Experiences are objective - they are true; they are what they are; - but beliefs about them need not be. But since we create the world we live in, why not create the most beautiful one - and for all intents and purposes that is the world we will live in. I don't see how helpful it would be to practice yoga, which is about the union with the infinite divine consciouness, if you don't believe in such a thing. Remember you are constantly creating your world, and you are the consciousness behind it. If you don't call this God, then what do you call it? We all create reality. We have the power to create universes. Someone may not actively - consciously - believe in God (I didn't for a long time). But let us look at ourselves. What are we doing, waking up at 4am, taking cold showers, chanting mantras? What deep, unyielding yearning doesn't live us alone? If you are doing this, your soul is searching for something. There is nothing wrong with calling that something "God". It is just a name, give any other one. But you cannot really say that you don't believe in That which your whole being is searching for. The proof that you believe is the simple fact that you are searching. And may all of us experience... Sat Nam, Alina
Guest guest
Dear Alina, The question was for everyone. Thanks for sharing. If you are doing this, your soul is searching for > something. There is nothing wrong with calling that something "God". It is > just a name, give any other one. But you cannot really say that you don't > believe in That which your whole being is searching for. You can say it, but the reality is as you point out, whatever we say or do not say, we are all searching for something. Good point. The proof that you > believe is the simple fact that you are searching. > > And may all of us experience... Sat Nam, RAttana >
Guest guest
Alina, Those words were beautiful. Tat tvam asi. I have to agree to the yearning inside as being one directed solely from God, from inside, due to it being yourself (God=self). However, I don't want anyone to get me wrong. Seeing myself (or you seeing yourself) as God is not a ego trip or anything near to the sort. It is realization that you are a part of everything, because God=you=everything. This in turn creates within a humbling aspect when you experience all as one; and any action you perform, or any thought that you think, word that you say, affects everything and everyone. I hope that made sense. It's not an ego boost, it is an equalizer with everything. You may feel like your mind is expanding, or your heart is growing, or that the love inside you is unable to be contained, but there is nothing wrong with that; that is a connection with everything. I'm babbling now. Alina, thank you for those words. They made a lot more sense that these do in this post.
