Guest guest
Dear Eric, > Is there anything specific I should tell a student that has had a recent ham-string injury? > I've told him to be careful when we do life nerve stretches - especially ones that involve a lot of movement. And I've told him dull pain is okay but sharp is not. Is there any other advise I can give him? Years ago I pulled my hamstrings being too enthusiastic doing leg stretches. It took about 3 months to heal. This is what I did. I did the stretch on the good leg and felt how that felt. Then I simulated doing the stretch on the pulled leg. I never stretched the muscles. I was very protective of them. While simulating the stretch, I felt in the pulled leg what I felt on the good leg. Several months latter one fine day, the muscle was healed and I could do the stretches again. TIP Now I would add shortening the muscle to protect it and heal it. We are so much into stretching that we forget that the muscles must also have the opposite movment to stay healthy. Shorten any muscle that is pulled simply by drawing it in and up. It is very healing. Sat Nam, RAttana
