Hi all! I've been working with the breath, and there is something I wonder

about. When you hold the breath, you can hold it with or without locking the

throat. Its been my habit to lock the throat but am noticing that the holding

is somehow more lively without the squeeze/throat lock. On the other hand,

the breath can leak out a little.

I would like to build up the inhale/hold/exhale pattern to 20 seconds

each (for example, with alternate nostril breathing). Although I have done

hatha yoga for many years, I can't sustain the breath in this pattern for

more then about 10 seconds each, and even then, I find it difficult to

maintain the pattern for more then a few minutes. I suspect it is about

monkey mind too, and being able to stick with something for a period of time.

How do you increase the ability to hold the breath for longer periods of time

and to hold the pattern for longer. (I'll bet someone will write- just do

it!)

Two days ago, I was doing the elevation set and couldn't find my timer.

It was a very nice experience to work with the exercizes without the timer. I

felt very in touch with what was happening and wasn't thinking about when the

timer was going to go off. Why is there the need to time the exercises? What

is that about? And why not work untimed as well? Lots of questions- thank for

providing a forum to ask!
