Hello,

Sometimes, the question is asked : What is the 'Breath of

Fire' ?

Here is a definition, and then a slight modification I

practice...

Breath of Fire

Sit comfortably with a straight spine. Rest your hands on

your knees, palms up,

with your fingers in gyan mudra (touching the tips of the

index fingers to the tips of

the thumbs). Breathe fairly rapidly (about 2 or 3 breaths

per second) through your

nose, while you pump your navel point and abdomen-- pulling

them sharply inward

on the exhale, and pushing them out during the inhale. Your

chest should be

relaxed. When you're finished, inhale deeply and hold the

breath while you pull the

energy up into your higher centers. Then exhale and relax.

This is a balanced breath with no emphasis on either the

inhale or the exhale. Try

thinking of it as one continuous breath being pulled in and

out. You won't

hyperventilate if you don't breathe through your mouth.

Start practicing breath of

fire for no more than three minutes at a time and work up

to 31 minutes or more.

(from Tantric numerology by Dr. Guruchander Singh Khalsa,

D.C. p. 121)

My own way :

I rediscovered this breathing, just studying the way I used

to train for apnea.

What I do is, moreover, to get rid at each expiration, of

the residual air in the lungs.

I go on for one to two minutes breathing deeply and quickly,

each time fully emptying, then totally filling my lungs.

Then I slow down for about three more minutes.

What happens then depends on what you are :

- some people get energized for several days.

- some others walk to and fro hectically for two or three

days, with difficulties to sleep.

- for me, it does just nothing : when it is over, it is

over.

So, practice 'your own way', and tell me, please the result.

Greetings from the pond,

Froggy Jacques
