Guest guest
Dear Lisa and John, The relaxation after the exercises is for total relaxation, not necessarily sleep. Nap time does give the wrong information. One of the wonderful things about Kundalini yoga is that it is actually possible to truly relax and release tension after dong a vigorous exercise set. The more present we are to our bodies and breath during this time, the more we can allow ourselves to consciously relax and surrender to what is actually happening in our bodies. This is a time to let go with awareness. If we can experience a relaxed awareness than we can carrry this awareness into our daily lives. In the letting go, we may fall asleep and that is fine. But the point is to let go, not to take a nap. Many people equate relaxation with pass out. We are attempting to be able to attain a deep relaxed state while consciously aware. TIP-Yogi Bhajan has called KY the Yoga of Awareness. It is good always to keep this as a touchstone. Concerning music during the class. My personal preference is for no music. I think music is a distraction from listing to the cosmic sound of the universe inside ourselves, listening to our breath and paying atention our our bodies. Being aware of the physical sensations in our bodies is very important and music often keeps us in the mental realms and outer directed. Chanting Divine Mantras is different. It is a technology to change the subconscious mind, clear old programming and align us with the comic vibration of Love. After we chant however, it is important to sit quitely and listen. Ahh, the lost art of listening to the Universe speak to us. What a gift and a pleasure. When we practice yoga as I have suggested above and learn to relax into our expereinces of the moment, we also cultivate the attention needed to Listen. To address your question, playing tapes with Divine Mantras and Gurbani during the class or the relaxation would aid the clearing of energy and add to the healing. Yogi Bhajan is trying to keep the teachings of KY as pure as possible so people can get the maximum benefit from this spiritual path.
