Guest guest
Aside from all of the worldly reasons to not eat meat and not to harm animals....ex. animal cruelty, environmental destruction, and disease. There are spiritual reasons as well. Eating animals gets in the way of deeper meditations, it gets in the way of "finding out who we truly are". Of course, you CAN get a certain enlightenment while eating meat, but you can't go as deep or as far. And, you'll create more karma for yourself. You'll have to work harder making yourself purer and to cleanse yourself of the suffering you partook. I know of at least three Masters that suggest or require a vegetarian diet in order to have them as a Master. There's Sri Chomnoy. He's doesn't say you HAVE to be a vegetarian but he says you will be able to go further if you are. There's Suma Ching Hai, a wonderful living Vietnamese Master. She requires all disciple to be vegetarians so as during group meditations the purity of the groups is not tarnished. (She is also horrified with the slaughter of innocent beings and feels that bad collective karma is created when we kill animals on a massive scale. Often this collective karma manifests itself into natural disasters, etc.) Then there is the Maharishi, who himself was a vegetarian. I could go on and on... Just another part of discussion of vegetarianism and it's relation to spirituality... -Kristina
Guest guest
Hello Kristina, and everyone, Been lurking and reading all the posts about vegetarianism. This is one of the very first changes I made in my life back in my early 20's when I first started up Yoga, and have stayed a Vegan ever since..... I truly agree with everyone's decisions about not eating red meats.... Sat nam, Zeta Guru Zail Kaur, princess who is the light and territory of the guru. Guest guest
Sat Nam, I had an interesting experience about 10 years ago. I decided to take some supplements for the liver that were made from bovine sources. I started having nightmares with violence and killing. I stopped taking this product and my bad dreams stopped. Hummm. Experience spoke to me. Peace, Sat Nam, Gururattan Kaur
