Guest guest
Aurora et all, I am also a newcomer to this list. I live in a remote rural area and depend on books and now videos for instruction in Kundalini Yoga. I have Ravi Singh's book, Kundalini Yoga for Strength, Success, & Spirit. I had this book with me when I spent 2 months in a little Idaho jail for blockading a logging road with Earth First! It was nothing short of miraculous! I highly recommend this book. If you can not buy it maybe you can get it at your library through inter-library loan. I am currently using a video in my daily practice, Kundalini Yoga with Grace & Strength, featuring Carol Carlson. I got it through my book club but I've seen it at Amazon.com. It is a little difficult for me as I am now out of shape but she helps modify for those of us who need it. I really do feel "stronger every day". I have just ordered my first video from Ravi Singh. If anyone else has video recommendations I'd love to hear it. I would also like to know about any Kundalini Yoga workshops or instruction in the Northwest, Puget Sound/Seattle area. There are yoga teachers on my Island but not Kundalini. I would also like to know if people have any recommendations for those of us who do not have access to live Kundalini teachers where we live. Guest guest
Good for you Peggysue! Just returned home from my Tuesday night KY. Our teacher had us do a set from that book tonight. She's hoping to get Ravi to come here. He's in New York, we're in Indianapolis. --Nancy Peggysue wrote: > I am also a newcomer to this list. Guest guest
I am also a newcomer, not only to this egroup, but to the whole concept of yoga....and everything else. I was wondering if anyone had any wonderful ideas for me to try for relaxation, sleep apnea and also to help me meditate. I have been on anti-depressant for the last 6 years and just read a horrorfying webpage about the long term effects of these medications.....I am really trying to find an alternative. I will try anything at this point. Thank you very much.... Love and LIght Klassy - "Taproot" <taproot <Kundaliniyoga > May 16, 2000 8:06 PM Re: newcomer > Good for you Peggysue! I still need any help I can get. > Sat Nam > Brian > Dear Brian et al, I am very fortunate to live in a rural area where I do have classes available and a wonderful instructor. I go once a week in the evening after work. However, as a rank beginner in KY (or any yoga), I too am seeking ways to practice 4-5 times a week and to learn on my own. I just got the video series "Kundalini Yoga -A Complete Course For Beginners" w/Nirvair Singh Khalsa. This is his seminar-long course at the University of Alaska, and assumes no prior experience. I ordered on the web from Cherdi Kala Productions at http://www.cherdikala.com (thank you, Satsang Kaur). There are many books and videos available from that site. I have done the first 2 of 12 classes in the series and found them very helpful to practicing at home. You do not feel so alone with an instructor & the music playing, and you can look up at the video for guidance on poses when needed. This series may be too "easy" for the more experienced among you, but it does increase in difficulty as the course goes along. The other thing which helps me is that when I hike for aerobic exercise ( I go about 3 miles several times a week), I try to focus on my connection to the natural world around me, rather than all the daily concerns that consume me as a business owner and employer. I practice deep breathing while hiking. Sat Nam, Kristen I hope other people may >> have ideas, kriyas, meditations, or other means of "keeping up" from a >> distance. The people on this list help me with my connection to my higher >> power and I need help - I can not do it alone. >> >>
