Guest guest
Recently someone asked about yoga for eating disorders. On Ravi Singh's video 'Fat Free Yoga' there is a breathing exercise that calms the mind and helps with food cravings and compulsive behavior around food: Open the right hand, fingers extended, place the thumb on the right nostril blocking it off, breathe slowly though the left nostril. Hold the breath in as long as you comfortably can then breathe a long breath out and hold the breath out as long as you can. repeat and practice for a few minutes or over time up to 11 or 31 minutes. I've only been practicing with this video for 3 days but it seems to have helped me with my deadly evening/nightime food cravings. I am a round Kapha body type and though not anorexic or bulimic have dealt with the food/body issues all my life. We live in a culture that actively promotes anorexia. It's hard to avoid the brainwashing. A book I have found helpful in regaining my own balance with food is, 'Intuitive Eating' by Evelyn Tribole & Elyse Resch. I hope this is helpful Sat Nam Peggy Sue

A word of warning about downing large amounts of carrot juice - it makes you much more susceptible to the rays of the sun and subsequent burning and damage - I make juice every days with different greens and add just one carrot. Anorexia - our society certainly doesn't help with attitudes towards body types, but there are much deeper issues involved in anorexia. People with eating disorders have very serious control issues - starving oneself is a way of feeling in control in a life that feels out of control. I know , because I suffered from anorexia long before it becames a common disorder. The happy news in - one can recover. Completely.
