Guest guest
Hi to All A posting on another list has prompted me to write this - it is definitely off-topic for these lists, but very much on-topic for everyone who is using the Net. No doubt you are all annoyed when you are subjected to the attentions of the Spammers - you know, those unsolicited emails that appear in your mailbox with annoying regularity, selling everything from credit card clearance to porno sites. If you don't already do so, now is the time to start fighting back, and help rid the Net of this menace. First off, never reply to Spam - many of the messages have an link at the end - this is a scam. It is used to validate your address - every validated address increases the value of the list that is being used by the Spammer, and the information is circulated widely to other Spammers. Secondly, report them for Net abuse. I always use Spam Cop - http://spamcop.net/ If you visit their site, request an authorization code - this will be mailed to you - then simply click on that link anytime you have Spam to report. You will be taken to the Spam Cop site, to your own personal submit box. You have to copy and paste the offending message here, complete with all header details. Hit the Spam Cop "submit" button - the message will be scanned, and in a matter of seconds Spam Cop will come up with all the relevant addresses to which reports will be sent. You are asked to approve the mail, and then it is sent out automatically. Most ISPs regard Spam very seriously, and will not hesitate to delete offending accounts from their systems, so filing complaints does work! If you are using Outlook Express, it is simple to obtain the message header details. Right click on the message summary, and then click on the "properties" tab on the drop down menu. Click on the "details" tab and then on the "message source" button at the bottom of the next box. A new box appears containing the message complete with heading details. Right click anywhere in this box, and then click "select" and then "copy". Go to the Spam Cop box, right click, and then click on "paste". Hit the "submit" button and your message is submitted to Spam Cop. If anyone is not clear about any of this, or needs further advice about using Spam Cop, please mail me off-list - gordon Sat Nam!
