newbie question, yoga mats

Hi all,

I'm a relative newbie to yoga and really enjoy reading the posts. Right now I

am working with ashtanga

(sp?) yoga, but am interested in kundalini sometime. Do you need to have a

"basic" yoga foundation before

you practise kundalini, or can you enter into it "directly"?

Anyway, I recently bought myself a yoga mat to practice on. It is just a basic

"sticky" mat. While I like

having the mat to practice on (just rolling it out helps get me into a yoga

frame of mind), I have found

that it seems almost too sticky. When I am turning my feet in or out the mat

sticks and twists, and when I

am moving my feet to a different position underneath me the mat sticks and

lifts. Any suggestions? Does

this usually get better with use, am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

You can go into it directly. And anyother practice of the postures is

useful too.

Sticky mats are very useful for postures that you might slide around on, but

not necessary or even useful for postures that you need a foundation that

permits movement. Use it for the dogward dog and such poses and don't use

it for the other poses. Also it is not very good for meditation since it is

a synthetic material. Best to be on a natural fabric for meditation.
