My name is Rikki Schafer, I am 24 years. Currently I am a senior at Drake

University in Des Moines Iowa, I am majoring in sociology and anthropology

and minoring in political science. A few years ago I began to question

organized religion and began searching for "God" myself. I am eager to begin

learning about and practicing Yoga. I am confused about which form is the

right one for me.

Hi Rikki!

I've been doing yoga (and yoga has been doing me....) for about 18 years. I

still don't know which form is right for me! Same for meditation!

However, I don't regret any of the yoga that I've done! It is without a

doubt the best practice I have done for myself! I started with Iyengar

style Hatha yoga, then Kripalu (no Iyengar teacher in the place we moved

to), now do a combination of Kundalini and Ashtanga. I love them all!

All the best to you in your quest. Feel free to write back if you wish to

discuss the different experiences that each form gave me.

Sat Nam,

Michael Conley

Hi! I'm really interested in how you fit the two together. Do you do two

different practices, or combine

them together? I have been doing ashtanga for a couple of months and really

love it. But I'm interested

in the more "round" approach of kundalini, but am not sure how to go about

integrating them. For the time

being, I've sort of been letting it ride and just doing ashtanga (I'm relatively

new to yoga and the

ashtanga practice has really been helping me to get in shape in a way that I

don't hate or get bored with).

Thanks!

Hi Tammy,

It's not a very formal process -- I have two classes that I go to... one is

Kundalini and I do a kriya every morning... er, almost every morning. I go

to an Ashtanga class and will do the primary series at least once a week.

It keeps me feeling fit, while the kundalini gives me more heart and

enthusiasm. I like the energy I get from doing both. If I could, I'd do

one more ashtanga class/week, but my kids are beginning to forget what I

look like!

Hope this is helpful!
