Guest guest
Hi! Many years ago, I was involved in a car accident that put my spine a little out of alignment. I didn't know about this until recently when I went to a chiropractor and a few other practioners mentioned my pelvis is slightly out. Will this have any effect on the asanas. I've noticed that I do have pain in sacral area which tends to give me radial pains in the base of my skull. I have to go for more treatments but it will be a while before my spine is completely aligned. Any questions or coments? Guest guest
Watery Skipper: Yoga will helpyour alignment in a far more permanent and healthy way than chiropractic will, I believe. I had an accident a few years ago that left my back nearly completely immobilized, with most of my pain in the lumbar-sacral area, like yours. Yoga got me walking again and now, for the first time in over 3 years, I have started to try to run again. Before finding yoga, I went to a chiropracter every day for a month, and while I left feeling good each day, I gained zero long-term benefits. Probably because the pain tends to come more from the muscles and fascia surrounding the malalignment than the bones themselves, which is all a chiropracter works on. You know, they say that most people's spines are not perfectly aligned, and yet a significant portion of that population has no pain. I, for example, always had scoliosis, yet never had back pain until my accident. My theory is that the pain is "stuck energy," bad energy, to be exact, and that only the release and rejuvenation of that energy, stored not in the bones but muscles, ligaments, fascia, etc. will rid you of the pain. But that's just my theory. My experience, however, definitely supports doing yoga to relieve messed up backs! Good luck!
