Guest guest
Greetings to everyone My apologies for this long message but I am in need of some assistance. I have been practising KY now for just under a year, daily in the last four months. I am only managing about twenty minutes each morning so far but feel that this is a solid beginning! Over the last few months I have been experiencing a strange build up of energy at night time (usually about 10.30 til well after midnight). It starts as a feeling of agitation below my navel and starts to build with increasing agitation in my legs. I feel as if I need to run a marathon and then keep on going! Even if I feel tired earlier in the evening when it comes to bed time, I am wide awake and "jumping". This seems to be happening more and more and I can only think it is related to the KY. Some nights I get very little sleep at all and this really catches up with me in a big way a day later. The feeling is uncomfortable to the extent that I would like it to stop but it is not painful. Thus far, I have tried to manage it by staying with it (it then gets more intense and I find that I have to do something about it) and then by doing some KY or some Chi Kung. This seems to help somewhat (after about an hour) but I would really appreciate some guidance. I don't have a teacher close to where I live and rely on Gururattan's books and these lists for inspiration and help. I would like to know what it is that is happening to me and what would be the best thing to do about it?? I have wondered if I am doing something wrong, or something right (??) and what would be the best kriya or meditation to do when the feeling happens. Many thanks for a wonderful website and list. Guest guest
Dear Suzi I am responding to your questions about your strange symptoms. I am new to this list as of last night, have not yet had the opportunity to see or read any of Gururattans books or pamphlets, and know very little of the system being put in use here. I am no expert on anything, but can suggest what little I do know. > Over the last few months I have been > experiencing a strange build up of energy at night time > >From what I have read, a wide variety of bizarre symptoms can be signs of kundalini arousal. I think your symptoms could easily fit into that category. I would really appreciate > some guidance. There is an energy path called the microcosmic orbit. It is a path starting at the perineum, going up the back, over the top of the head, down through the tongue which is curled back at the roof of the mouth, and down the front of the body back to the perineum. Rather than sitting with your consciousness centered in one chakra, you rotate your awareness in the circuit. With the in breathe you pull your awarenss up the back, and on the outbreathe you start the downward motion. What I was told by a meditation teacher/acupuncturist, was that every major acupunture point in the body is in that circuit. He was from a Taoist school that discouraged forcing the Kundalini up the central path. Their method focuses on using the microcosmic orbit, as they believe it is a safer and more grounded way to ultimately achieve the same thing. His advice, though, to people who were going to do it anyway was to rotate the heat and light generated in your Kundalini meditations in the microcosmic orbit. That way it would then be distributed more evenly through all the meridians and organs of the body, making one less likely to experience the terrible disturbing experiences sometimes associated with kundalini arousal. Guest guest
I can't respond to whether or not the KY is causing it (I'm a beginner myself), but a couple of things to think about are...when do you get up in the morning? and how active are you through the day (other than your yoga)? If you don't get up very early (say, 6am) you might be experiencing a typical "second wind". After an evening drop in the energy cycle it picks back up, especially if what you do in the evening is to eat dinner and then sit down (rest) for the most part. If you think this is the case you might want to consider getting up earlier in the morning. It will give you more time in general and help you use up your body's energy so that you are more tired at bedtime (therefore more likely to sleep well). Also, if you do mostly sit after dinner you might want to consider doing something physical. It doesn't necessarily need to be exercise-like. Just take a stroll outside or something. This will keep you "up" longer, thereby putting off when you sit and become mellow. Once you do sit and start to mellow out, go to bed soon thereafter. If you allow yourself to sit and rest too long you will just get another "wind" and not be able to sleep again. Of course, maybe none of this applies to you at all. In such case, just ignore me! : ) Tammy TARRANT-SNEDDEN wrote: > > Greetings to everyone > My apologies for this long message but I am in need of some assistance. Guest guest
Sat Nam Suzi: Congratulations on establishing a daily practice!!! It is very common to experience considerable shifts in the way we experience energy in our body, especially when we are beginning a new practice. (I assume that you are not drinking coffee or eating a bunch of Ben and Jerry's ice cream for dessert, of course Naturally, a practice of KY will make you more sensitive to such things, and also change how you respond to them. Don't worry about these changes, simply experiment with things that help you to sleep. Going for a walk and/or practicing some KY/meditation before bed is surely a good thing to do, and there are a wide variety of helpful things one can do before bed, such as washing the feet in cold water and massaging them. Ensuring that you are breathing through the left nostril will help to calm you down. The book "KY: The Flow of Eternal Power" has a whole chapter on sleep. There is a set called Pitta Kriya (Total Relaxation Set) that could be a good choice, and so would Kriya for Conquering Sleep (Sadhana Guidelines). I find healing meditations using the Siri Gaitri mantra (RaMaDaSaSaSaySoHung) to be very soothing and a good choice at bedtime. Joy & Light (and a good night's sleep)!
