Guest guest
Dear Kris: The book Self Knowledge has a kriya called Conquering Depression. There is a quote from YB next to it: "When our insecurities and fear attack together, the normal outcome is depression". I also think some of the more joyful meditations (for example, Chatachya Kriya in the Positive and Neutral mind section of Gururattan's Transitions to a Heart-Centered World, or Meditation for the Positive Mind from "The Mind") would be helpful. >From a purely physical perspective, depression is linked to serotonin re-uptake problems (that means the serotonin is bound up in brain cells and not available for re-use), and so the common pharmaceutical intervention is the use of SSRI-type drugs (selective serotonin re- uptake inhibitors). These have a lot of unpleasant side-effects, physical and otherwise. There is a very safe and effective alternative: 5-HTP, in combination with St. John's Wort, demonstrates the effectiveness of the SSRI's with none of the side effects. I wish many blessings for your daughter, for you, and for your family. With love, Sadhant
