Guest guest
Dear Friends, Several people have asked for a technique to quit smoking. The following breathing technique was given by Yogi Bhajan to counter the immediate urge for stimulation. It can also be used to help deal with cravings for food and caffeine. It is also recommended to do alternate nostril breathing during the period when you are trying to rid yourself of an addiction. Alternate nostril breathing is inhale left, exhale right, inhale right, exhale left nostrils, closing off alternate nostrils with the thumb and middle finger of the right hand. The direct quote for the exercise is as follows. "Whenever you feel the urge, do three breaths, done by sipping air in staccato, rapid rhythm by fluttering the tongue up against the hard palate, right in the center, then holding the breath while pressing the tongue against the roof of the mouth. Exhale. After three breaths, your energy is changed and you don't have the same need". You do this each time you feel the need for a cigarette, want to binge or feel a craving coming on. Sadhant tried it and he reports; "Wow. I've never done that before - I just tried it and it certainly changes the energy in a hurry." Let us know how this works for you.
