Guest guest
Dear Kristin, Sat Nam. I bent at the > waist to stretch to the center after having stretched to each side > (something I do relatively easily most of the time), and my sacrum went into > a mild spasm. I finished the set, gently, being careful not to strain my lower back any more...... My attitude remains positive and I count many blessings - I just want to know if I should try to do any more or just > lay around on my aching back. Lower back problems are directly related to the third chakra which is will, identity and self power. On the physical level all exercises that involve any movement of the lower body should be initiated from the navel center which is 2 inches below the actual navel. To correctly use this center and move correctly we need to use the abdominal muscles, ( and the hip muscles and the thigh muscles in the exercise that you described.) This essentially means that yoga must be practiced as in internal art, like the martial arts. The muscles in the small of the back are very small and should not be used to make the movements that most of us use them for. The navel center is the third eye of the body and should be cultivated to be the initiator of all physical action. This is facilitated by strengthening the abdominal muscles. Also when we do breath of fire we should feel the navel center going from the front of the body through to the spine. THe navel center allows us to cultivate our will, take command of our own energy and direct our thoughts to the Divine. This is a big topic. I will cover it in a future KYTraining lesson.
