Guest guest
Sat Nam Rashmi: The kundalini rising experience is different for everybody - however, one thing seems certain - when it happens, you will know it. Quoting from Gururattan Kaur's "Intro to KY": "Some experience it as heat along the spine and others see it as brilliant light. It is described as spiralling up the spine by some and as shooting straight up the spine by others. Whatever the individual perception, it is definitely a delightful and euphoric sensation, often attended by extraordinary phenomena (and) exalted consciousness". For me it begins with INTENSELY pleasurable feelings at the base of my spine - I find myself pulling the root lock almost automatically, and the feelings rise upward. It feels as if my head is expanding, and I feel an overwhelming connection to everything and everyone. I feel enervated, glowing, powerful, energetic, loving, open, joyful... Any sadhana will work - if it includes kundalini yoga and meditation it will work better Here is a link to a posting on the subject: /message/Kundaliniyoga/2903 Love & blessings to all, Sadhant
Guest guest
Dear Friends, > From my own research, awakening of the kundalini can happen a right way and > a wrong way. Kundalini Yoga is designed so that the Kundalini awakening would happen "the right way". If you are practicing KY and are not attempting to raise the Kundalini through non-yogic means, then you are very safe. Sensations of heat and cold are common Kundalini signs, however staying "out of the body" for days is not, at least not in KY. Most Kundalini awakenings are in fact very subtle. Don't expect thunder and lightning - many times a Kundalini awakening will manifest through a constant sense of well-being, an expanded consciousness, better intuition and similar signs. You will have physical kriyas only if you need them. It is said in yogic scriptures that there are 27 different types of Kundalini awakenings. As you can imagine, they can be quite different. > Most important is the neck lock, which prevents the onset of > disconnected/depressed feeling after a premature awakening. This info is not > from my own experience but from the experience of others I have read about. > The best I can gather is that the 'athletic' attitude toward KY and > meditation can be the cause of a premature awakening, and that if the three > locks are not applied then kundalini will not rise up the central channel > (the spine), but will take alternate routes. The locks are important in unguided Hatha Yoga practice. In KY as well it is important to follow instructions. If you do KY according to the instructions and without improvising sets and exercises, then that is sufficient. > One person wrote on a chat room > that he has had a headache for over a year as a result of premature > awakening. Ah, the Kundalini horror stories! As far as I know, practicing KY or any other guided yoga techniques will not result in any bad effects. I have heard of many ways in which people try to awaken the Kundalini - from hours and hours of strenuous exercise to electrical stimulation and other wacky ideas. One word about these: don't. Non-yogic means will merely manage to irritate the Kundalini. I wouldn't call their result a Kundalini awakening by any means. > If I may turn this response into a question, I would like to know what is > the proper attitude / mindset toward awakening one's kundalini? and also > what particular routines / exercises are best for helping one toward this > experience? >From the little I know, the first and foremost thing to bear in mind is that the Kundalini has to be treated with great respect. We aren't talking about an ordinary organ or a "thing". The Kundalini is the universal consciousness, the great cosmic energy. I have heard people talking about raising the Kundalini in the same way they talk about getting strong muscles - with the same attitude and with the same sense of "mine-ness". As a matter of fact, you don't raise the Kundalini, and it isn't "yours". You open yourself up so that the Kundalini can flow through you. It is the Kundalini who will raise you. If you respect it, it will respect you. About which routines are helpful - everything in KY is helpful, since everything is designed to open the pathway for the Kundalini. Some exercises like Sat Kriya and sets or meditations that cover all the chakras are specifically designed towards a Kundalini movement. The other ones lay the groundwork so to say, and so all of them are important. Many blessings, Satsang Kaur
