Guest guest
Frances, I, too am I newbie to the world of Kundalini yoga. I have been studying with an instructor privately with 2 others for 3 weeks now.. not very long, I admit, but I have felt changes in various areas of my life since. As far as you saying that you do not feel that you have advanced spiritually or have become any nicer of a person.... I think that both of these have to be a conscious choice on your behalf. We can't expect a yoga technique or a meditation technique or reciting a mantra to change our lives or our selves on it's own. We have to believe in what we are doing.. to trust what we are doing and, above all, we have to WANT to gain whatever it is that we are striving for. If you don't believe, then how can you become? >From my personal experience over that past few weeks... I do feel a certain sense of calm. For me, with my job, this has been a welcome change. I have found my thoughts to be clearer, as well. One thing I have also experienced, is for about 2 to 3 days after a class, I really want to sleep........ I mean.. go to bed at 8 at night!! Then, after this passes.. I feel very alert and clear for the rest of the week. Here's my theory: is this a result of toxins passing through the body for elimination due to the stimulation of the glands? I know that in a fast... for 3 days, it's hell... then you feel amazing and full of beans!! ) Anyone else experience this?? (the after class tiredness) anyway...Frances... have faith!! There is a wonderful new book out which I plan to pick up soon, called the 8 Human Talents written by Gurmukh .....hope I spelt that correctly. This woman has been studying and teaching Kundalini for 30 years... she is 59 and looks amazing!!! I know that you can purchase it off of www.livingarts.com ..... maybe you might want to take a peek at it. Unfortunately I have no classes of this type near me, so I am delighted to meet all of you! I like to hear from some of you, what is your advice to someone starting practicing Kundalini Yoga? What made you stick with it? Also what exactly is a kirya? I get pleasant sensations in the spine when meditating and during normal activities in the day, but so what. I don't feel as if I have made any spriritual progress. I am not any calmer or kinder than I used to be. Guest guest
Rosalyn Bruyere in her book "Wheels of Light" discusses "channeling" energy. She says that as we bring more energy into our physical bodies we in essence have to "re-wire" them so they can handle more of the energy - sort of like rewiring for higher voltage. Ms Bruyere says channeling this energy will stress our physical bodies just as if we had been exercising. Perhaps this is why we feel tired for awhile after KY. Also, had the most remarkable experience this morning. Felt energy circling my body, but it was - how can I describe it but - out of round/unkempt/ uncomfortable-yet not really unpleasant. Anyhow, I decided to envision energy coming in from the top of my head. This seemed to produce a vortex going down through my body. OK, but again not as OK as I would have liked. So I brought energy up from/through my feet and had it meet the other top-of-head energy in the 4th (heart) chakra. Wow - immediately everything "purred". The energy stabilized, and what I have at times felt was making me somewhat dizzy, stopped and I felt like (the picture which comes to mind) soft supple green (not bright green) velvet. Anyway, as I say it seemed to stablilize everything and all dizzyness and swirling vanished! A remarkable book I am reading is "Kundalini Awakening - a gentle guide to chakra activation and spiritual growth" by John Selby. If I had only one book on KY, this would be it!!!! Hope this helps.
