I am new to practising KY, I am learning from a wonderful instructor for only 4

months but cannot believe the changes in my outlook. I have heard many

references to 40 days. Is it better to practise any set or mantra for 40 days in

a row? I loved them all so was going to do one a night :) Also, what is the time

needed for mantras to be done 40 days in a row to reap benefits? I have been

chanting for about 20 minutes thus far at one time.

One of my teachers put it this way: once to experience it, 40 days to

see the benefits of it, 1000 days to master it. Usually I will work

on my 40-day set for my early morning routine, and experiment with

different work in the evening.

The common times are: 3, 5, 7, 11, 15, 22, 31, 62, 1 1/2 hours, 2 1/2

hours. Think of each time as a different level, with more and more

benefits at each level. It is important to work up patiently - as

another teacher once said to me, better 3 minutes doing it pefectly

than 31 minutes of slouching and losing focus.

It is worth finding a good timer (preferably with a beep that isn't

obnoxious) to time our asanas and meditations, to easily add time as

we work our way up, avoid clock-watching, and so forth.

Congratulations on the changes in your life, and welcome to the list!

May all love surround you,

Sadhant
