No, they don't have anything to do with traditional mantra/asana/pranayama, but it's definetely still Yoga... http://mindcare.com http://dynamind.com http://elixa.com http://cerebrex.com http://toolsforwellness.com > > hello...does anyone know any mantra/asana/pranayama > for addictive behaviours (nicotine, food...) > and to help me learn to love my body??????? > > please help!!! > Sat Nam > > > Sara
Guest guest
Dear Sara, there is a medidation to change eating patterns; it's a bit challenging though, because it should last 31 minutes a day, for 90 days. If you feel it's more than what you are ready to do at the moment, wait more answers from the group. I'm confident you are going to receive many other suggestions on that matter. Sit in Lotus and breath long and deep through your left nostril (holding your right nostril closed with the thumb of your right hand - the other fingers are straight up). Hold the breath. Exhale completely and hold again. Hold both times as long as you can. Enjoy it! Good luck and much love from Sat Sarbat Kaur
Guest guest
Dear Sara: There are a variety of meditations & pranayams that are useful for addictive behavior. Here is some information that Gururattan posted a few months ago: Several people have asked for a technique to quit smoking. The following breathing technique was given by Yogi Bhajan to counter the immediate urge for stimulation. It can also be used to help deal with cravings for food and caffeine. It is also recommended to do alternate nostril breathing during the period when you are trying to rid yourself of an addiction. Alternate nostril breathing is inhale left, exhale right, inhale right, exhale left nostrils, closing off alternate nostrils with the thumb and middle finger of the right hand. The direct quote for the exercise is as follows. "Whenever you feel the urge, do three breaths, done by sipping air in staccato, rapid rhythm by fluttering the tongue up against the hard palate, right in the center, then holding the breath while pressing the tongue against the roof of the mouth. Exhale. After three breaths, your energy is changed and you don't have the same need". You do this each time you feel the need for a cigarette, want to binge or feel a craving coming on. Gururattan posted a complete lesson on addiction - here is a link to that lesson: /message/Kundaliniyoga/1189 One of the most valuable of the addiction meditations is called "Medical Meditation for Habituation". Effective for all kinds of addictions, this can be found in GKK's "Relax and Renew", as well as the venerable "Sadhana Guidelines". I think the most direct way to work on self-love is to treat oneself with love. How does a child know that she is loved? Because her family treats her in a loving way - by doing things that make her feel good, steering her away from things that are bad for her (even if they feel good in the short term), and so forth. The more we treat ourselves lovingly, the more loved we actually feel. This is a self-reinforcing behavior, the perfect antidote for self-defeating behavior patterns. You are loved! Blessings, Sadhant
