Guest guest
Greetings and blessings to all. I have a question regarding what is acceptable in terms of teaching KY techniques to others. I have read in several books and articles on KY that Yogi Bhajan’s intention has always been to create teachers. I have also read KY teachers saying how good and noble it is to share what we know with others. For example, they say if you know even one small asana or technique and teach it to someone, that is a good thing and in a way you are a teacher by sharing what you know and helping another person. I am a newly certified instructor in another style of hatha yoga (my teacher studied in India with Sri Swami Sivananda). I have recently become interested in KY through 2 videos, Gurmukh’s beautiful new book, and 2 books by Ravi Singh. I have tried our esteemed teacher Gururattan’s excellent spinal flexibility set from the kundaliniyoga.org website and found it extraordinarly effective and helpful. I have been unable to find a KY instructor in the area where I live, so I am learning from the aforementioned excellent books and videos until such time as I locate an instructor. My spouse, a rather musclebound fellow who prefers weightlifting and jogging, saw how these new KY exercises were doing such wonders for me and asked me to show them to him. (Never thought I'd see the day that would happen!) Because the sets I was following were quite simple, for beginners, I figured there would be no harm in “teaching” them to him. He loved them and is now asking me for classes about 2 or 3 evenings a week. He says his back has never felt better and it has improved his energy and general sense of well-being. He also says he sleeps like a baby after doing the KY exercises. One thing is for me to teach what KY I know to my spouse. But I wonder if it is acceptable (ethical) for me to incorporate some of these beginner sets, or elements thereof, in the hatha yoga class I teach at work 1-2 times a week? (I volunteer to teach a lunchtime class to a small group of enthusiastic colleagues at my company.) I know that my students would greatly benefit from some of the breathing exercises (such as Breath of Fire) and from the spinal flexibility set, and that they would enjoy them immensely. Kindly let me know if it is okay for me to share my newfound KY knowledge with my students, of course being clear to them that I am not an expert in this particular style of yoga (KY) but that I sincerely want to share with them some things I find very healthful and helpful. I will gratefully await comments from any of you experts out there. Namaste and Sat Nam, Inti _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. This is OK. However, it is best if you tune in first with Ong Na MO Guru Dev Na Mo. At least tune in yourself. You will probably be guided to take the teacher's training course which is offered in Espanola NM in July and it other cities during the year. Sharing what you know is a good way to get started. > > Kindly let me know if it is okay for me to share my newfound KY knowledge > with my students, of course being clear to them that I am not an expert in > this particular style of yoga (KY) but that I sincerely want to share with > them some things I find very healthful and helpful. Yes, this humility is good too. The more you teach, the more you will learn. It will all unfold for you. Many blesssngs, Gururattan Kaur
