Guest guest
Dear Kelly: Anyone can request a spiritual name from the Siri Singh Sahib (aka Yogi Bhajan, the master of Kundalini yoga). Here is a copy of a response to an e-mailed request for a name: >Sat Nam. The Siri Singh Sahib has gratefully received your email >request for a spiritual name. He humbly requests you to write him a >postal letter with your request and the following information: full >name and current address, date of birth and gender. Please mail your >request to: > >Yogi Bhajan >Hacienda de Guru Ram Das >Route 2, Box 132 D >Espanola, NM 87532 > >The Siri Singh Sahib sends you his prayers and blessings. He >says, "Feel free to come to Summer Solstice and merge into your >beauty, bounty and bliss in the Land of Enchantment." > >Humbly yours, Siri Hari Kaur, Executive Secretary to the Siri Singh >Sahib/Yogi Bhajan The spiritual name is considered to be reflective of our destiny, often giving us some idea of what our gifts are in this life or what we might want to work on. Just so you know how they work, all women get the last name Kaur, which mean Princess, and men get the last name Singh (lion). If the person adds a further last name of Khalsa, this indicates that they are an American Sikh. Some people choose to legally change their names, some simply use it to some degree (for example, I teach under my spiritual name, but haven't changed it, and still use my birth name in other aspects of life), and some simply like to know what it is, without using it at all. Guest guest
Sadhant, Thank you for your response. I am fairly new to the practice of Kundalini Yoga, but I felt very drawn to it from the moment that I first discovered it. I was lucky enough to find a teacher here in Montreal and have been taking semi-private lessons from her for a few months now. I am very interested in coming to New Mexico for the Summer Solstice next year. It sounds very powerful. What is the significance to the wearing of the color white? Most pictures I have seen of the gathering is that of a sea of white. When first starting Kundalini practice, is it normal to go through various phases of energy/fatigue/intense emotion? After my first class... I felt a warmth and an intense tingling throughout my body. I felt alive. More alive than I had in a looooong time. Then.. I was ready to sleep for days! Another time.. I felt really sad........ perhaps a release. I have been through so much personal and family pain the last few years....... perhaps it is releasing stored up negative energy. Are there specific asanas or mantras that may help with releasing old emotion and negativity. Most of it is based on fear, I believe. Most pictures I have seen of the gathering Summer Solstice is a wonderful experience - perhaps I'll see you there! Wearing white helps to expand your aura - it is definitely worthwhile. Although I don't wear white all the time, I did for a year, and still do to teach and practice. > When first starting Kundalini practice, is it normal to go through >various phases of energy/fatigue/intense emotion? After my first It is totally normal to go through those sorts of changes, and not just when you are starting. My experience is that I have plateau periods, when not much is happening, and then there will be very intense periods of the type you mention. There are many kriyas and meditations which are useful for dealing with negativity, fear, etc. Gururattan's book "Relax and Renew" is a good source. I posted an excellent meditation for fear from the book "The Mind" some time ago - here is a pointer to that: /message/Kundaliniyoga/2767 Another valuable meditation for such things is Kirtan Kriya (also called the Sa Ta Na Ma meditation), which can be found in many books, including her "Sexuality and Spirituality" - it has been posted as one of our lessons in the KYTraining group - here is a pointer to it: /message/KYtraining/288 Love & blessings, Sadhant
Guest guest
While we're on the topic, I wanted to share that this week, I just got my spiritual name from Yogi Bhajan. It is Kewal Kaur, which means supreme princess where God is the only name; where God is exclusive. I think the timing is perfect, since I just started KY teacher training and I am pondering changing my name completely. I was wondering if Gururattan or Sadhant Singh can help me with the pronounciation (I won't be back to class for a week to ask my teachers) - short or long 'e' in Kewal? Thank you. Guest guest
Sat Nam I am also doing teacher training in Va. I am interested in obtaining my spiritual name as well. If anyone can give me information on how to get it I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you, Hillary
Guest guest
Sat Nam Kewal Kaur: I like your name - however, I haven't heard it before, so I can't be sure on the pronunciation. I would assume short "e", and accent on the "wal". If anyone knows better, please post. Congratulations on starting teacher training! Many blessings, Sadhant
Guest guest
Sat Nam to all! I love love the Guru Guru Wahe Guru Guru Ram Dass(sp?) Guru meditation - is all right to do that as a main meditation with at least three Ong Namu Guru Dev Namos before it? Also after doing a few minutes of the Guru chant on the chakras can I then just focus on my third eye chakra and chant? Thank you and blessings to all! As a coincidence my daughter has just got the same name (written Keval and not Kewal on YB's letter, though) and checked on pronounciation. Accent is on "a". Blessings!
