Guest guest
Hello, I have been reading everybodies answers and suggestions with great appreciation. I know it is hard sometimes to get answers and who to go to for the correct answers. Next weekend, Dec 2,3,4,5 - I will be traveling to Texas to take a Texas Insurance License Exam. I do know I will practice my yogi while I am there. Does anyone know of a fast or special diet to cleanse the system and clear my mind? I will need to be alert and focused. My big concern is not staying with the program when I get tired or run down. We are in classes for 10 hours a day. I will need to absorb all the info they give us. I am 45, therefore studying and retaining does not come easy. I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks to all, Barb
Guest guest
Dear Barb: Of course, the person to go to for the correct answers is... you! But I'm sure others will have good suggestions to consider There are some special kriyas and meditations for memory in Gurrattan's "Relax & Renew" that could be good choices to support you during this intense period. I would definitely recommend taking advantage of any break times to use your breath to your advantage - segemented breaths (8 segments in, 8 segments out) is good for focus and long deep breath is good to help you relax and become calm and clear. Yogi tea and lecithin are particularly recommended for the memory, and ginger tea is stimulating, if you find you need some extra energy. You might want to take along some calming teas like camomile to help you sleep. YB says (Foods for Health and Healing) that women need to be especially careful about fasting, and if you aren't used to it, starting just before something like this might be rather taxing. A great cleansing diet is the yoga standard mung beans & rice, recipes for which can be found the above book or in Relax & Renew. It can be difficult to maintain a good diet when we travel, but being careful to eat simple, highly digestible foods, and avoiding things that are tough on our systems (meat, caffeine, sugar, salt, etc.), and not eating too late will also be helpful to maintain good digestion and sleeping patterns, which will be important during your trip. Walking or yoga before bed will also help with sleeping. Chewing well and eating slowly helps with good digestion and reducing stress. At Summer Solstice this year we had an exercise to take 62 minutes to eat a single orange, chewing with only the tongue. This really brought my attention to the fact that I have a tendency to eat too quickly and not chew thoroughly (I am not alone in this And don't forget to drink lots & lots of water, to help reduce stress and detoxify the body. If the climate is dryer for you in Texas, drink more than you normally would at home. Sat Nam, and I hope your trip goes well! Love & many blessings, Sadhant
