Hello everyone

My name is Nick, I am 29 years old and live in London England. I have never

attended yoga classes

but have practised yoga at home, learned from books, on and off for many years.

I started off with

Richard Hittleman's asana routines, which I found very good for my nervous

system, and more recently

have read Van Lysebeth who is very informative and practical.

Anyway I discovered the "kundaliniyoga.org" website several months ago while

browsing the internet

and was fascinated by it, I have since been working through the online course.

As a KY beginner I will mainly be lurking here but I'm sure I will have

occasional questions and

here is a starter one:

I have begun meditating in the full lotus position with my left knee touching

the floor, however the

right leg is less flexible and the knee remains a couple of inches off the

floor. Is this still

acceptable, and are there any good methods for getting the knee down (or will it

just improve after

lots of daily practice?)

Welcome and Sat Nam, Nick!

Of course your flexibility will improve with regular practice. You

may find a pillow tucked under the buttocks will help make your

position more comfortable and bring knees closer to the ground. It

is also helpful to switch which leg is on top from time to time -

this will help you to open up the hips, as well as helping to bring

the masculine/feminine (or solar/lunar, or physical/mental) aspects

into balance. And practicing half-lotus (on both sides) can be a

productive way to work up to full lotus, as you may find it easier to

relax in this position.

Many blessings,

Sadhant
