Lotus position

Many thanks for the advice, I will "mix it up" as suggested and see what

happens. I can tell that the full

lotus is superior for lower spine straightness, albeit my spinal weak-point I

feel is my jutting neck

vertebrae..hopefully KY practice and chin-lock will help to align this.

BTW I have seen pictures of yogis in lotus position but with their arms straight

vertical and palms flat on

the floor, raising the body off the ground. Do you know anybody who uses this

position or what it's

benefits are?

That position is called Balanced Pose (Tulasan). It strengthens the

arms, chest, shoulders, & palms, and helps with cleansing the stomach

and intestines.

It is also used in the advanced form of the Body Drop, in which you

rapidly pick yourself up off the ground and then drop yourself - you

will see body drops in a number of KY kriyas.

im my experience pictures taken of yogis with their palms pressed flat into

the floor, legs in lotus and body raised are in the final pose in asthanga

yoga. it is called uth pluthi and has many benefits for strenthing the

mid-section, perfecting control of the bandhas, and completely opening the

three granthis, located in the sacrum.

Nick,

As far as I know and from my own experience the posture of the lotus

being held above the ground with the

arms is a transitional pose. The Yogi is supposed to lift himself and

them drop himself onto the base of the

spine, stimulating the mulhadra and helping to release the kundalini at

the base of the spine. If there is

another reason for holding this pose without dropping I do not know what

it is. Hope this helps you. Be Well
