Guest guest
The barefoot yogi- another reason not yet mentioned for doing yoga barefoot has to do with the stimulation of meridian points on the feet, which should be familiar through Refloxology. When you squeeze the fleshy part of the big toe, for instance, you stimulate the pituitary gland. Or, rubbing the soles of the feet together after relaxation stimulates lots of meridian points. This is better acheived barefoot than in socks. I don't think most yogis would consider doing yoga with gloves on- why should the feet be any different? I'm sitting here writing this is my bare feet in Maine, rubbing my feet together, and it feels great. A little almond oil on my feet would feel even better. In general, when trying to figure out the effects of a particular pose, exercise or practice, I find it helpful to consider energy and energy flow first, whether it be through the chakras, nadis, electromagnetic field, meridians or what have you. Life is all about the flow and exchange of energy, and Kundalini Yoga works with all these energy systems and more.
