Guest guest
Hi, this is my first post. I am trying to get info on the safety of kundalini yoga practice during pregnancy. I am 6 mos. pregnant and am considering waiting til after delivery to start. Any suggestions on where and when to start would be helpful. FOr now, I have ordered a yoga for pregnancy video,as I do not want to put anyone else at risk. Thanks for your insight. Caroline
Guest guest
Sat Nam Caroline! > I am trying to get info on the safety of kundalini > yoga practice during pregnancy. I am 6 mos. pregnant I guess the video you ordered is Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa's 'Baby and Mom Pre-Natal Yoga' - if not, you could also try this one. Gurmukh K.Khalsa has a wide experience in teaching yoga for expectant moms and children. I am sure everything in the video will help. However, you might consider talking to your doctor first. Something that will definitely help are breathing exercises, especially the calming ones (such as left nostril breathing, deep long breathing, alternate nostril breathing) and meditations such as Shabd Kriya or Kirtan Kriya. You can find details about these on www.kundaliniyoga.org and most KY books. If you are going to take pre-natal preparation courses, probably your doctor will tell you how important breathing is for both you and your baby. I would very much recommend starting on breathing exercises right away (however, not the energizing ones like the breath of fire). Hope this helps. Blessings to you and your baby! Guest guest
HI there and Happy New Year...I very much appreciate your helpful comments. I was wondering about how my emotional state during pregnancy would affect the baby. Is there anything to read about this subject? I have been very depressed, and though I know all the steps to correct this, such as yoga and not isolating, I still question the bond that is forming, and thought maybe some more info would help. Blessings to you and yours. Caroline
Guest guest
Dear Caroline, Just to add. No navel exercises after 3 months of pregnacy, but you do need to do breathing, abdominal strengthings and keep active as you can. The videos will help. Guest guest
Sat Nam Caroline, One more thing. Chant divine chants to the baby. Everything you do and say during this time is imprinted in the baby's psyche. Chanting Guru Ram Das is a wonderful gift to the child. We chant to reasure ourselves and the baby. Talk to it and assure this soul that you love it, welcome it and will give it love in its new home. Explain that the depression is hormonal and not a reflection of your love for it. Souls understand. It is amazing. Congratulations on your pregnancy! As the mother of two beautiful children, I can tell you that you are entering a wonderful, if somewhat stressful, <smile> time in your life. While you are waiting for your video to arrive, I would suggest that you check out: www.socalbirth.org/shelly/yoga.htm This is a wonderful site that I have recommended to two of my students in the past year that found they were pregnant; we even did a couple of the sets in class, as a whole, even those of us who were not pregnant. Good luck! Happiness and Health to you and your little one! Sat Nam. Devta Kaur
Guest guest
Hello! I am brand new to this list and glad to have found it! I will post my introduction separately, but I just had to pipe in here. I have practiced kundalini yoga through two pregnancies and definately found it to be helpful, if not essential for me. It is good to be careful about what exercises you practice when pregnant. I thought the video previously mentioned was great, and I don't usually get into videos (we don't even have a tv!). On the depression topic, I thought I would share that my last pregnancy was much more challenging than the first. I had a feeling akin to depression, but more like a gray cloud hanging over me all the time. I learned that it wasn't something I was meant to break out of, that rather it was that my body was really giving its all to create that body and the cloud was a way of sort of dampering my usual energy down in order to dedicate it to baby making. Yoga can be really great for getting in touch with ourselves and really finding out what the problem is and helping us to understand it and deal with it. Oh, walking is also highly recommended for pregnancy. Well, I have to go and make dinner!!
