Guest guest
Sat Nam Danut: One of the things that YB has said is that it is very hard to stop a bad habit, but much easier to replace bad habits with good ones. Establishing habits of good health will make it easier to eliminate old habits, and the changes that come from meditation help to eliminate the psychological causes of those habits, and the patterns of thought and neurochemistry that support them, replacing them with patterns that serve us better. Also, yoga strengthens the nervous system, which makes it easier to handle the dificult periods that one faces when quitting. I can assure you that my practice of yoga helped me to eliminate many bad habits from my life. There is a meditation called "Medical Meditation for Habituation", found in Gururattan's "Relax & Renew" (also in "Sadhana Guidelines") which has been helpful for many people in getting rid of addictive habits. Here is a link to a technique that Gururattan posted which is helpful: /message/Kundaliniyoga/2818 If you search the web-site for smoking-related posts, you'll find some other useful thoughts - try this link: /messagesearch/Kundaliniyoga?query=smoking Best of luck! Guest guest
I quit smoking nearly 8 years ago after realizing I had been doing it for half of my life. I found that without true intention, the smoking will continue. I also found that motivation had to be personal, and not for anyone else. My biggest motivator was regaining the control (dependency) that smoking took away. I did not want to be ruled by the addiction/habit. And finally, quitting is absolute - having "just one" is not quitting. My uncle told me that as soon as you have one, you have to quit all over again - not something I would want to keep experiencing. Also, be honest and loving to yourself. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Dear Danut, Also do lots of breath of fire. The more pranayama, the more your lungs just won't tolerate the smoke. One guy told me that he took steam baths and his lungs just wouldn't let any smoke in any more. SAt Nam, Gururattan Kaur
Guest guest
Also, Ti Daunt, read the book Run Away Jury by John Grisham....it's fiction based on fact, I read it and decided I really didn't want to throw my money to the sleazy tobacco companies any longer, especially when you consider that there is not one positive thing to say about smoking! dasajo wrote: > The gum worked for me, you can stop smoking, you will when you're ready > > Ti Daunt wrote: > > > I'm smoking for 10 years and I want to quit, but........ > > I CAN'T. > > > > Can you give me some tips. > > > > Best of luck. > > Danut. > > > > _______

Guest guest
Wow, this is excellent advice. I've given up several tough habits, smoking being one of them. When I first quit I realized that a lot of what I missed about it was taking 5 minute breaks every hour or so to go outside and do some deep breathing. A little over 3 years later I don't take the breaks as frequently anymore but I do still find sometimes that stopping whatever work I may be doing to go outside for some deep breaths of fresh air does me a world of good. And the wonderful thing is that I'm not hurting myself doing it. Also, be patient with yourself. You can manifest anything in your life when you are ready. Though I don't smoke anymore I still deal with habits, thought patterns, etc. which no longer serve me. During my yoga practice I take specific times to try to release these things. Some things hold on more strongly than others but I can see the grips lightening. And hey, I'm new here. Good to find you. Ann -
