Re: Student Survey

I, too have found teaching discouraging, at first. I taught in my

meditation/ritual space @ home., i call <>THE REALM OF ISIS<>, I would

attract mostly short term studentswho would participate for awhile , then

drop out. In my desire to reach all ppl. ( low income, etc,) I worked on a

donation basis , no need to make ppl pay it all upfront & penalize those

dropins with higher rates.as many do The thurs am class, fizzled out, i

tried sat am ,to accomodate others , which ultimately proved to be less

convenent for me, with too many other activities going on & i couldn't

have class every week . Sometimes, no one would show, I usually advertised

by an email list( + a few stores & a Quaker meeting house) i had created of

local KY students from my classes & other classes i have attended. , I was

down to possibly one committed student. I have since quit teaching but may

resume by appt . , but i am tired of accomodating ppl's schedules .

I am definitely not in it for the money. Perhaps i don't have enuf

committment . My warm season classes were fun to have in our private

backyard with Javanese temple deities and a fish pond.

When I started KY as a beginner, , I would drop out periodically when i

would get depressed, so i can relate to others doing the same. Ideally, i

was to start my class with the attitude that i would continue by myself &

for myself whether anyone showed or not, I was going to do yoga, if ppl

joined me, fine, if not ok. But it didn't work out that way. I became too

annoyed @ ppl not showing. & quit.doing it by myself @ class times

Now i occasionally work by myself some mornings & occasionally attend other

teachers classes and sometimes resent the other local teachers that have

maintained their students, when i didn't. Perhasp i didt attract the

committed, because i was't, either . I miss teaching in some ways & would

benefit from more group KY

I wonder how many teachers attend other's classes once they teach, it's

harder when you're no longer a beginner.When i started as a student, i

attended all the classes i could find, noting the diferent styles, I notice

many students limit themselves to only one teacher & miss experiencing

different approaches/styles.

I find that i can be less accepting of others styles that don;t reflect my

own, I enjoyed being creative, adding hatha warmups & stretches when needed

.. We always closed in a healing circle holding hands sending energy &

singing may the long time sun + 3 sat nams, which create such a nice group

connection. I miss it when local teachers omit it.& only chant sat nam.

I also found that some local teachers had poor boundaries, by leading

unnecessarily intense, excessive & long classes, by ending the class

with 3 protection meditations solely for that teacher's own personal

issues, ie, protection against hostile neighbor annoyed by ongoing loud

chanting & music penetrating thin apt walls. during her classes.

Sometimes I find that the choice of kriyas in other's classes don't meet by

needs , can lead to injuries , etc, & I'm better off practicing by on my own

to get exactly the specifics needed,at that time. However, it is important

to maintain a balance of solitary energy versus the benefit of group

energy

Once a teacher, one notices many drawbacks that beginners wouldn't ., ,

however, I still want to emphasize how beneficial KY classes are , even

locally for me.

BTW I also do service in other ways such as tarot readings & facilitating

a womyn's spirituality circle..

Good topic! These are my reflections .and i hope i wasn't too

critical/negative..

OM Shanti
