Rose:Miso Soup for Radiation

Dear Rose,

I read an article in Prevention magazine in

~1980-81 which profiled an empirical study

of survivors of the nuclear holocaust @ Hiro-shima. The study found that the

survivors who

lived the longest were the ones who consumed

miso soup almost daily. Miso can be found at

most Japanese specialty stores, or you can

probably find a site to order some from on

the web. Thinly sliced green onions are common-

ly put into the broth, and sometimes diced tofu.

Miso seems to have an easily assimilated form

of organic iodine.

Tofu "scrambled eggs" is another good one.

Fry a pound of tofu with a sauteed onion and

add a heaping tablespoon of turmeric. The

turmeric has antiviral properties and can

hinder the virus that aggravates arthritis.

Japanese Shiitake mushrooms also have healing

properties. They can be bought dried in

plastic bags and rehydrated in miso soup.

All of these may be prepared to taste.
