Guest guest
Hello there, With regards to Jala Neti, I have had the pleasure of its practice for about a year now and it is wonderful for sinus problems as well as asthma which is why I practice it. Specifically: The measurements are 1/2 tsp salt (or 1/4 tsp each of salt and baking soda which is what I use) to a cup of very warm but not too hot distilled water. I use a neti pot which I got at the local "Whole Foods" chain in my town, but one can also use a plastic bottle that can be gotten at a local pharmacy for this purpose. The measurements are important because you want to imitate the saline content of the body; less salt can be very irritating and too much dries the nasal passage too much. I practice this morning before my shower and evening about an hour before bed to allow my sinus to fully drain. It can be done more often as the need arises. On another note, I have also found that pranayama (breath of fire, sa- ta-na-ma meditation) is good for asthma too…by increasing the carbon dioxide balance in the bloodstream, this causes the cells in the lungs to open up and be more receptive to oxygen. It is amazing how we can breathe and breathe and still not be able to utilize the oxygen, due to not breathing properly or "overbreathing". Hyperventilation causes the body to shut down to receiving oxygen, that is why the old cure of breathing into a paper bag is effective. Breathing from the belly feels good too. P.S. Thank you Avtar for the resource on gong CDs.
Guest guest
Hello, Since I can stay not far from six minutes in apnea, I am not sure, as you said, that hyperventilating 'causes the body to shut down to receiving oxygen'. Because when I dont, I just gag ;-))))))))). What kind of bottles are these? As as someone who gets frequent sinus headaches I'd love to try it. Also does anyone any other substitute ideas for the kettle? I know my yoga teacher had said she's never been able to find them. A wondeful day to all! Deb

Guest guest
Hello Deb! Unfortunately the neti pot I use was made by a local ceramicist, but I do think there are several things that might work as well. The plastic bottle at the pharmacy is known as a sinus rinse kit and comes in a box with instructions. Other items that might work as well and maybe even cost less would perhaps be one of those single serving tea pots at Pier One or cost plus, or even a generic plastic bottle with a pointy tip like those used for ketchup or mustard (CLEAN of course!) by making the tip opening just a bit larger, not too much it might work very well. Hope this helps. lily Kundaliniyoga, "deb" <debmck@n...> wrote: > >but one can also use a plastic bottle that > can be gotten at a local pharmacy for this purpose. > > What kind of bottles are these?
