Yes - essentially the idea in vastra dhauti is to swallow the cloth, so that pulling it out cleanses one of excess phlegm - it is also said to be helpful for gastric disorders and various other problems. Only to be done on an empty stomach. Sutra neti is cleaning the nose with a thread (not a cloth, according to my Kriya yoga book). They say one should master jala neti (using water) before trying this. They also say not all cleansing techniques need to practiced by any given person (whew! Guest guest
heheee!! In all honesty, I have a hard time with the idea of swallowing a cloth to remove excess mucous. I'll settle with a change of diet ) I think that you're right in pointing out that these techniques are not necessary for all and should be practiced with someone who really knows what they are doing... otherwise, it could lead to rather unfavourable results.... I'll let your imaginations run wild for a moment. ******* On a very different note...... for any of you taking Zyban.. this is a prescription drug that is for depression and to help people quit smoking. It is widely distributed around North America.. a little to freely, as most anti-depressants are. A good friend of mine was taking it to battle smoking and occasional depression. He died last weekend as a result of heart palpitations leading to cardiac arrest. He was 26 years old and had no pre-existing heart condition. This was caused by the Zyban, according to the coroners report. If any of you are taking this drug, please be aware that it is not safe.
