Guest guest
Hi to All I don't like to interfere with topics of conversation, but please remember the purpose of this list - it is to discuss Kundalini Yoga and related subjects, and most of our rs are here for that reason. This is a very broad remit, but for the last couple of days we seem to have strayed off at a tangent, with far more messages about things such as drugs, drug company "ethics" and yeast infections than anything else. Please try to insure that your postings have at least some kind of tenuous connection to Kundalini Yoga! ;-) Sat Nam! I understand the need to limit the number of posts, and to keep on topic. We need the guidance of Gordon to keep it all manageable, and appreciate his diligence. However, when the "off-topic" posts are closely related to our practice and our greater health & well-being, and do not go on "forever" and get out of hand, it does seem to be very helpful to a lot of us. I'm not sure that wholistic treatments for yeast infections are any more off topic than the many uses of sea salt - particularly if the initial question is for a KY answer to the infection. When none are forthcoming, is it wrong for some of us to offer advice that is not KY, but is natural & healthy? Many of us are seeking ways to live better through KY, and the experiences of others on this thread are relevant to us. Just IMHO - sorry so long! Guest guest
Gordon, I admit it... I'm guilty of posting off the topic of Kundalini yoga, but I have found that through speaking with people on this list, many of us want to include Kundalini in our lives because we are looking to better our lives and our health in some way. This leads us to also look at alternate choices for our health and our diet and to seek out knowledge so we are able to do this correctly and without ignorance or blind faith. I believe that many of these topics are interrelated and of relevance to many. Even speaking about the recipe for the India Spice tea is not a specific Kundalini topic, Chai tea goes far beyond this practice. Maybe I'm just speaking for myself, but I think that by limiting to the strict topic of Kundalini only, many may miss out on valuable information that can be related to the practice. I mean.. think about it... many have come on this list seeking advice with medical problems and there are things that you can add to the practice of Kundalini to help heal this. Can we not mention this knowledge if we feel that it is helpful? If we only reply to that person specifically, then others who may want to hear this will miss out as a result. Is it possible to perhaps have a sister list to the Kundalini list that is a little more open to the possibilities of a wheel of healing, where Kundalini and alternative methods can merge as a whole? I don't mean to step out of line, but I just feel that by this sort of limitation, we may be missing the big picture. my 2 cents, Kelly kelly mitchell Media Principia-Ex-centris Montreal,Quebec www.ex-centris.com <http://www.ex-centris.com> gordon [gordon] Friday, February 16, 2001 2:57 PM Kundaliniyoga On Topic Postings Hi to All I don't like to interfere with topics of conversation, but please remember the purpose of this list - it is to discuss Kundalini Yoga and related subjects, and most of our rs are here for that reason. Guest guest
Dear Gordan, I have to say I am in agreement with Kelly. Better health is certainly one of the goals of people practising kundalini yoga, and some of us have found that our practice has made our bodies more sensitive to toxins in rmedications ect. It is wonderful to be able to tap in to other people's experiences and get helpful suggestions. I don't see health as being any more off topic than diet - Yogi Bhajan himself gives lots of suggestions for better health and healing ailmments. Surely Kundalini yoga is about a complete healthier way of life, rather than just the practice of yoga itself ? I thought it was all inter- related. Looking at the ancient healing ways catalogue certainly gives one that impression - and it was set up at the inspiration of YB ! Everything from books, tapes, to herbal medications, food ect. My two cents worth to add to Kelly's ! Love and blessings, Avtar K. ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! Guest guest
Dear Friends: I basically agree with what Kelly is saying, and not just because I'm constantly posting the yogi tea recipe KY consists of much more than the yoga practices. It is primarily about building a healthy lifestyle, and contains teachings on everything from how to go to sleep to how to take a shower to herbal remedies, and I certainly don't restrict myself to the KY teachings when I answer questions. The teachings, because of their ancestry, don't include much information about nutritional supplements, or the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals, and so forth (note that Dharma Singh's books, which integrate Western medicine and KY, provides an excellent example of a context for addressing these issues). As KY practitioners and teachers, we are in the process of this kind of integration - this, IMHO, is one of the reasons that YB wants to create teachers rather than students: so we can apply these teachings to modern life, so that we can expand our ability to be healthy, so that we can help others learn to be healthier, and this requires learning about many different things, not all of which will come from the teachings. I think it is healthier for us as a group to stray from topic, at least to some extent, to be creative, to share ideas, than to consciously limit our discussions. OTOH, too much of a good thing is still too much, so let's try not to stray too far. Those Yoga Police might be watching! Guest guest
Hi to All, Everyone who has replied to my post is right in what they say - that KY extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom or the pages of a training manual, and its influences can be felt in every aspect of one's life. It is very seldom that I attempt to influence the direction of our discussions on here, which I know are a very valuable source of information. >From the tone of your responses, I think my purpose has been achieved. That you are aware that this is a list primarily about Kundalini Yoga. It is not so much the occasional postings that stray off-topic that concern me - rather it is the replies to them and the replies to the replies, (especially those of the "I agree" one line type), which tend to very rapidly diverge from what I perceive to be our primary purpose. I do not think that another list would help - if a lot of our regular contributors went elsewhere to post and reduced their participation on here, then we would all be losers. On this list, volume of mail is an on-going problem - we veer from feast to famine and back at irregular intervals and without any apparent underlying reason, and when things get too busy there tends to be a surge in unsubscriptions, especially from those rs who are using their computers at work, and who are worried about the mail volumes drawing unwelcome attention to their personal activities. I would ask everyone to bear this fact in mind when posting. By all means keep writing. (Do remember to trim your replies of all unnecessaary quotes, and especially of old message trailers and headings). We have a wonderful forum here valued by many, and I would be the last person to want to inhibit this in any way. Sat Nam! Gordon
