Dear List:

Yogic practitioners should ALL be quite

aware of the dangers of the little creature

known as "Candida albicans", its resurgence

and its prevention. When you practice a yogic

lifestyle you may be quite oblivious to its

presence in the suburban population, if you

maintain a level of yogic good health which

includes a diverse ecology of intestinal flora

and fauna including acidophilus et al. It

would help your understanding that Candida

can affect both men and women. In addition to

the widely advertised "female yeast problem",

it can also affect the esophagus and digestion.

In a culture that promotes white sugar, alcohol,

antibiotics, and fatty fast food, the internal

ecology promoted by such a diet allows a "weed"

like Candida to thrive and flourish, choking

out competitors that would "normally" keep

it in check. It's interesting to note that not

one TV ad for "yeast treatments" spelled "$$$$"

mentions that Candida Albicans is the main

culprit in these infections, nor that simple

yogic practices such as avoidance of sugar &

alcohol & antibiotics, and replacing them with

yogurt, acidophilus, and salads, can do a lot

to tame a raging population of Candidas.
