Guest guest
I am preparing an 8-class series on the chakras (one class per chakra). I am aware of, and use, GUrurattan's "Your Life Is In Your Chakras" , but I am looking for sets which specifically address each chakra. Any suggestions? Will appreciate any info/resources. Guest guest
Sukhmani, My teacher is currently doing this in class.... we are up to the 3rd eye chakra.. She also owns "your life is in your chakras", and found it was good for information, but not so good for sets for the chakras. Most of the books have excellent sets in them, but many incorporate a combination of the chakras, instead of each individually. Gurmukh's book, "the eight human talents" has postures for each chakra, corresponding with each chapter... this is a great place to start from and then do other research from there. In class, we also incorporated the different essences that resonate with each chakra through the use of incense as well as using colored light bulbs in parts of the room for color vibration. We even had music that had a certain effect on each chakra.... you can really go all out when you are able to have a very specific focus. good luck..sat nam, Kelly kelly mitchell Media Principia-Ex-centris Montreal,Quebec www.ex-centris.com <http://www.ex-centris.com> Sukhmani Kaur [sukieclj] Wednesday, February 21, 2001 8:33 PM kundaliniyoga Sets for the chakras I am preparing an 8-class series on the chakras (one class per chakra). Guest guest
Dear Sukhmani, As a part of my teacher training, each student chose a chakra or two to teach their first class on. I loved it and jumped to teach the upper ones. Later I taught a series on the chakras myself. I used different books, and class notes from my husband's teacher training as well. One book is called, _Chakras, Energy Centers of Transformation_, by Harish Johari. I used the pictures from that book to pass out. I also used a tape by him called, "Sounds of the Chakras". I found the Transistions book from Gururattan Kaur helpful tool as well. I used sets from different books. Probably some elimination one for the first chakra, I think from Sadhana Guidlines, and Transistions has a meditation for it, I don't remember the second, Nabhi Kriya for the third, one of the heart sets from _Transitions_ for the fourth, a great set from _Seven Days Seven Rays_ for the fifth called "the day of the Word" or something like that (lots of sitali pranayam and such), The marriage manual, _Relax and Rejoice volume 2_, has good communication meditations, I used a third eye set from the seven days book also, it's the Sunday set and very third eye orientated. For the crown chakra I put a set together from _KY Yoga for Strenth, Success, and Spirit_, another one by Ravi Singh. I used froup F sequence 1 and 2. Sequence one is stimulating and grounding and access the naval energy and the second sequence is very crown chakra, with the arms clasped overhead in various positions with long deep breathing and then some BOF and the arms come out to 60 degrees. A great set. I also used meditations from that book for the third eye. In teacher training I followed the crown chakra set with the God meditation from the Seven Day Seven Rays book. It is rather advanced, so I think I used something else when I taught the series to beginners, maybe it was wahe guru for ecstasy, I'm not sure. There is an aura set in _Sadhana Guidelines_, and it is also found in _Transisions..._ along with another good aura set. I think I did an "Ad Guray Nameh..." meditation with that. It was all fun. I would serve yogi tea after class and I found it very interesting that our conversation would be related to the chakra we had worked on. Like discussing our birthing experiences and such. I also took a chakra series from my first yoga teacher. So, I would suggest looking through all of your books and picking sets that work. There are a lot that focus on specific chakras. Hope that helps. Tonite we'll be doing nabhi kriya in class. Guest guest
I apologize, but the string of messages is so long, I can't seem to figure out who asked the orginal question about sets for the chakras. So... Dear All, Just last week, my teacher taught a set for all 8 chakras. Unfortunately, I can't recall all of the postures. That's ok, because it didn't seem to do much for me at the time. However, we were given a handout with a list of the chakras, their locations, functions, and recommended exercises. (I have also included a list of affirmations that I received on a different handout.) Choosing what suites me from this list as I work from ground to sky has been very empowering. The list: First; Coccyx; Grounding/Elimination; Pelvic Rotations, Butterfly ("I am connected, I am one with Mother Earth.") Second; Sacrum; Sex/Creativity; Spinal Flex in Easy Pose ("I claim my own power.") Third; Navel; Power/Projection; Spinal Flex in Rock Pose, Stretch Pose, Sat Kriya, Breath of Fire ("I am my own Master.") Fourth; Heart; Compassion/Love; Side Twists ("I am the spirit.") Fifth; Throat; Power to Speak the Truth; Shoulder Shrugs, Neck Rolls ("I can speak the truth.") Sixth; Third Eye; Intuition, Opening up the entire spine; Cow with Breath of Fire, Focusing at Third Eye, Cat-Cow, Rock & Roll ("I forgive myself and everyone.") Seventh; Crown of Head; Higher Awareness; BOF with hands in Venus Lock 4 inches above head and eyes up ("God in me, me in God are one.") A few sun salutations followed by a minute or so of the movement described below (don't know what it is called) get the energy and blood moving so that things seem to flow more easily. Give yourself time to sense what is going on between all exercises - take your pulses (at each chakra), let things settle almost completely before moving on. If things start to "slow down" or disappear, try a few rounds of the movement/visualization described below to rev up again before moving on to the next exercise. I find that you don't have to do every single exercise given for each chakra. Doing the one that you're most attracted to works just fine. I have been experimenting with the repetitions and times for each exercise... and have found that the "right" rep/time varies from day to day. The best effects seem to come when going exactly with the flow rather than towards a predetermined boundary. The effects of this "set" are very relaxing and integrating. Movement: squat in "crow" with feet flat on ground, shoulders between knees, hands in prayer pose. Move to standing as you raise your hands (still in prayer pose) above your head, release the prayer pose, sweep hands out to the sides and down as you squat into "crow" and resume prayer pose. You can visualize energy rise through the feet and flowing through each chakra as you rise, and flaring out, down, and returning to your base as you squat. Once you get into the motion, you might begin to sense that the energy and movement are doing the moving... not you. At that point, your hands will be flung away above your head by vast enthusiasm. peace. Nina.
Guest guest
I want to thank everyone for the suggestions I have received. They have been very helpful, and I'm looking forward to putting together and teaching this series. Guest guest
Hi I'm new to this list, and fairly new to yoga. I live in Israel. I took some lessons from someone who works on each chakra, with yoga, and later does meditation on all chakras, I think it is tantra style. He also uses the sun salutation for each chakra you can see this on his site http://www.oryam.com/lesson_eng.htm peace shoshana
