Guest guest
Hi everyone, >I wonder if in KY there are any specific asanas, >kriyas, that one can work equal with both sides of the >body, (like tai-chi movements effect) aimed to help >the body balance system Maybe someone could help Carlos and myself with the above problem. Anything that could help with our balance (due to inner ear problems) would be much appreciated. My experience is that dizziness can strike me at any time and not necessarily while doing balancing postures, but more often when I'm bending down to pick something up off the floor, or while driving up a hill. I believe that balancing exercises can help restore balance (or perhaps override the brain's messages???) so if anyone can advise... Thanks for the information Carlos. Unfortunately, I believe I am much more of a beginner than you are, so I don't have any advice for you! Sat nam Keri
Guest guest
Sat Nam Keri: First an FYI: dizziness is often symptomatic of high blood pressure (or other medical conditions like Meniere's), so if you having a lot of trouble with dizziness, you might want to check into it. Sun salutations, which you can find in Gururattan's "Relax & Renew", as well as many yoga texts (and websites), is probably a good choice for balancing the body, and is always a great way to start the day. I haven't found a kriya specifically for physical balance in Gururattan's books (did I miss something, GKK?), but I think the Kriya for Regeneration (also from R & R, and I've seen it elsewhere as Kriya for Rejuvenation) would be good. The book Expanding Intuition (which is a rather old one and may not be easily available), has a set called "Total Balance Set" (and "Inner Balance Meditation") which could be useful. These are particularly oriented toward brain balance, and also help to balance the aura and and muscle systems. For postures, you might want to try Thalasan (balance pose) as described in the Weight Control set in Sexuality and Spirituality, and I think that triangle, archer pose (both sides), and cross-crawls would all be helpful for establishing body balance as well. Many of the classical inverted balance postures from hatha yoga (handstand, headstand, etc.) are helpful for improving balance, but we don't teach these in KY (also note that they are contra-indicated with high blood pressure). Many blessings! Sadhant
Guest guest
I thought I would just mention in addition to Sadhant's info what my experience has been. I don't think I have had this condition you have been mentioning, but I have had dizziness throughout my life, starting around age 10 I think. My blood pressure is on the low side. The thing that I discovered that made all the difference was being grounded. I was so spaced out. Now, through assistance from some healer friends, my own conscious effort, and the pregnancy of my first daughter (who is a very grounded soul), I am becoming grounded. I think a balanced yoga practise has helped and also visualizations like imagining tree roots coming out of my feet and really feeling the earth beneath me. Gardening and sitting with your back against a tree are great for being grounded! Whenever I feel dizzy, (which means my vision fades to red and my ears buzz), I plant my feet firmly, breath deeply, and think earth, sometimes I also squat down. It really helps me. Now it rarely occurs at all, just when I wait too long to eat breakfast (I am breastfeeding and missing meals is not good for me!). I think that being grounded is a whole way of living and is important for everyone. Many of us who are attracted to kundalini yoga love to feel ether and stars and spirit. But, we are here in bodies right now. If we bring our energy firmly into the body, along with all the space and spirit I think we can do wonderful things here. I believe that that is what the much talked about and diversely interpreted ascension is really about- not buzzing off in a space ship and leaving everything we've messed up behind. Wahe Guru!
