Guest guest
Sat Nam! I have been doing the WaHe Guru mantra daily. I also use it when I am driving in my car on my way to school. It really relaxes me and helps me feel ready for the day. I noticed this morning that my four year old was playing and singing the mantra softly as he played.. He must have overheard me during meditation It really made me smile because he was so happy and deep in thought. Another thing that suprised me is that he had the pronunciation down perfectly. He was completely immersed in play and what he was doing while he was singing it. Would a young child get any ill effects from using mantra at such a young age without really knowing how to apply it properly with yoga? Is this too young for him to begin? I didn't have the intention of teaching it to him yet..I was waiting until he was a bit older, but he seemed so happy and content I didn't want to discourage him. On another note..On a CD that I have there is a mantra that is used that is WaHe Guru Dio. Can anyone tell me what the Dio stands for I cannot find the meaning in any of my books. Would a young child get any > ill effects from using mantra at such a young age On the contrary - listening to mantra, or singing it (or whatever) is wonderful for us at any age. YB tells us to bring children (babies) to sadhana so that they can be exposed to the healing and beneficial effects of the mantras, even if they are simply sleeping. > that is used that is WaHe Guru Dio. Can anyone tell me > what the Dio stands for I cannot find the meaning in Unless you have a mantra I've not heard before, it is actually "Jio" - it means "The Beloved", and is an affectionate term for God/Universe/Cosmic Consciousness, or however you prefer. KY practitioners often refer to each other as "ji" - same idea. Love & blessings, Sadhant
Guest guest
Qetesh, you might also be interested in the CD "Child's Play" , which contains songs and mantras for children. One is a child's version of the Sa-Ta-Na-Ma meditation. The kids in our kids class love it. I'm sure its available through some of the online yoga sources mentioned in the email. Guest guest
Sat Nam! I have a four year old daughter, and lately she has been joining me in my chanting meditations. I just love it and I think it is great for her to do. The best way to teach our children yoga is by example. I would like to do more for her specifically, and feel a little bad I didn't do much baby yoga, but it just wasn't happenning with us. She has always had that example, though and I think it will stick with her. Pronounciation is a cinch for kids since they are very open to languages, gurmuki and sanskrit being no exception. It is never to early, especially if the child is leading their practise. They know instinctively what is right for them. Guest guest
Another thought on mantras for children. I have also used the "Healthy, Happy, Holy" breath which appears in Shakti Parwha Kaur Khalsa's Toolkit for Beginners. You inhale, and holding the breath in, mentally repeat "Healthy am I, Happy am I, Holy am I," 3 times then say it aloud 3 times as you exhale. ( I would have small children just repeat once holding in and once on exhale.) Often thought it would be great if all kids could start their day with that affirmation.
