Guest guest
Hello, Though flexibility is great, here is some advice. I am a long distance runner. At 49 and 200 pounds (for 5 feet 10), I went to India and learnt yoga. I realized after a few months that the more flexible I became, the more difficulties I had with my legs when running or carrying heavy loads. I can carry 160 pounds on my back, walking slowly but without difficulties. The more I trained, the more I wondered. Sometimes I felt my joints were becoming cotton-like. So flexibility is great, mainly for the spine. However, when the bones are too much like children bones (many people in India have very thin ir flexible bones), or when muscles are overstretched, that is not fitted for everything in everyday life. So, gently practice. Regularly. And perhaps dont overtrain. I think one point to mention here is that there are certain asanas, such as Padmasana (lotus pose) that actually change the alignment of your thigh bones and knees (this, incidentally, is why so many people find this posture difficult or even painful in the beginning). This is a good thing for certain reasons, but it may not be so good for running. If I may make a suggestion, perhaps you should check out Nirvair Singh's video "Kundalini Yoga for Runners and Skiers" which is available online from a number of sites (www.a-healing.com, www.cherdikala.com ). Hope this helps. Sat Nam, Satsang Kaur
