Thank you for your response. May I ask another question please? What do you

suggest beginners should start with? I am somewhat overwhelmed with what I

should focus on. I would greatly appreciate any advise.

Ellen

Sat Nam Ellen:

The 1-minute breath is 20 seconds to inhale, 20 seconds held, 20

seconds to exhale (and repeat). If you can't manage this at first,

practice with a shorter time, but make all the segments equal in

length. Once you can manage 3 minutes with the full 1-minute breath,

you can start working your way up to 11 (or 22 or 31) minutes.

Blessings,

Sadhant

Dear Ellen:

>What do you suggest beginners should start with? I am somewhat

It depends, of course, on how much time you have, your current level

of physical fitness, and so forth, but the first goal, I think, is to

create a daily practice that you are comfortable with. An excellent

place to start is the basic spinal energy series, which you can find

here:

www.kundaliniyoga.org/spinal.html

This provides a complete routine, which, generally speaking, should

always be: a yoga kriya, a deep relaxation, and a meditation, in that

order. Many kriyas include specific meditations, but many do not,

which frees you up to find one that you want to work on. You can

always do several different meditations, if you'd like, and there are

specific recommendations for morning meditations, as discussed in

the "Sadhana question" thread.

Many kriyas also include some pranayama (breath work), but if they

don't, you can always add some yourself. Some people like to begin

their practice with pranayama, some like to do the kriya(s) first,

and then the pranayam. You'll have to experiment to see what works

best for you.

Please see this:

kundalini yogaprep.html

which discusses preparing for and concluding your practice. We have

many articles on basic KY techniques at this site:

www.kundaliniyoga.org

Many blessings!

Sadhant
