Guest guest
This is in reply to the recent question about dealing with a student who has had a spontaneous Kundalini experience. I have met several such people myself who have come as students or to seek advice. This is a large topic of discussion, but I will try to cut to the chase. Though there are various reasons for this occurance, it often happens with people who have a serious, often self-directed meditative practice without the physical aspect of yoga to prepare their body for the flow of Kundalini energy. If you practice Sat Nam Rasayan or can otherwise read the energetic balance in the chakras, you will probably find where energy is blocked or misdirected, usually in the lower three chakras. Once you have this info, you can give the person the appropriate exercises and meditations to help balance the flow of energy. Grounding exercises are often helpful as are Kirtan Kriya, Sat Kriya and similar meditations for balance and flow. Although it is not covered in KY teacher training, I have found reading about Gopi Krishna's experiences very helpful in understanding this spontaneous KY energy experience. Though there are areas in which I cannot say I agree totally with Gopi Krisha, his descriptions as to how Kundalini energy works in the body, how the process can go awry ( but not if you practice under Yogi Bhajan !!!!) , and its importance in the evolution of consciousness of the human race, make fascinating reading. To get a good sampling of his writing, I would suggest, "KUNDALINI, EMPOWERING HUMAN EVOLUTION, Selected Writings of Gopi Krishna, Edited by Gene Kieffer, Paragon House, 1996. I hope this info is of some help. Ram Rattan Singh
Guest guest
Dear Ram Rattan Singh, Thank you for your reply about spontaneous kundalini awakening. As far as I understand it my student did not have any mediative practice when this happened to him, but it had far reaching consequences in his life and he thought he was having a nervous breakdown. Your advice coincides with my own intuition - working on the lower three chakras, promoting grounding and balance. The student himself wants to do healing meditations. If anyone else has anything to add I would be very grateful for any ideas - I haven't been able to locate any information in my own KY books on how to deal with this phenomenon. Blessings to all, Avtar K. ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! Seems like denial of the realities of the body, and the emotions, are classic pitfalls on the spiritual path. I wonder if such attitudes are responsible for my own physical problems... I was considering trying to live on fruit juice and yogi tea, whenever my k was particularly active. :-) Ardas
Guest guest
We once had a great conversation at our local spiritual center, with a woman who had been through a very rough time due to a spontaneos K awakening (not caused by the practice of KY). She couldn't even hear a KY mantra without feeling overwhelmed. As mentioned before in other e-mails the problem seems to be all the energy going up and none going down, as well as the body not being properly prepared for handling K. In her case it was so extreme that when she ate the food would come out the other end without being digested. All the energy was going into the spiritual, and none into the mundane. Besides the need for grounding (she recommended not yoga, but swimming, jogging or walking in nature, gardening... doing simple "earthy" stuff) it sounded like her aura was totally whiped out. During her worst stage she couldn't even leave her home, she told us that she would walk down the street and be flooded with other people's thoughts, memories (even of past lifetimes) and emotions. She had lost the ability to discern who SHE was amongst this chaos. (Maybe the "I AM - I AM" meditation would help in such cases). This woman was very aware of her previous incarnations; she commented that she had already died in a previous life due to improper K-practice (she didn't elaborate on that), and that this experience was meant for her as the last stage of the evolution of her Soul. She said "the spiritual path is one of detachment, and this experience helps you to let go of the final atachment - atachment to God." I know this all sounds pretty wild, but I just thought I'd pass on the story as I heard it :-) Hope this helps! Blessings, Henno
