Guest guest
"Siobhan MacMahon" <siobhanmac > Does anyone know of a meditation to annihilate the ego? > > Love to all, > Avtar K. Dear Avtar, Basically everything we do in KY comes with that purpose, to get rid of the identification with the small self (ego) and recognize who we truly are. One such exercise is the Ego Buster (you can find it in many books, the one that springs to my mind right now is Shakti Kaur Khalsa's "KY - The Flow of Eternal Power" as part of the kriya for elevation). Goes like this: sit cross-legged, with your arms up above the head at a 60 degree angle - yup, one of those fun ones : )! . The thumbs should be pointing straight up and the other fingers should be curled into the palm - not in the middle of the palm but up at the root of the fingers. Keep your arms straight and stretch up. Do breath of fire with Sat Nam for 3 minutes. This should scare the ego for a good part of the day : )! Kirtan Kriya (Sa Ta Na Ma meditation) is also a meditation for change and works as an ego-buster as well. Happy ego busting! Guest guest
Dear Avtar Kaur, > Does anyone know of a meditation to annihilate the ego? Yes, and it is not quite that simple. Transitionally spritual paths have glorified (how ironic) the annihilation of the ego. First, ego is a term that is used to describe so many states and characteristics of the self. Obviously, operating out of a limited view of who we are , which can be called limited ego, is not optimal. Our goal is to become conscious of our expanded Self or Soul and operate from this higher identity. To do the above we need an ego, in fact we need a very powerful ego that has the intuition to tune into our higher self and the power of the will and choose higher actions. To cultivate this conciousness, KY and meditations and all spiritual paths can assist us. But it is our own awareness that we must cultivate to make these choices. It is our own will that we must develop. (stretch pose helps and all navel strengthening exercises help to cultivate a strong will) The ability to use it is up to our choice. In the end, we have to choose to live consciously. Every hour of the day that we are not asleep gives us an opportunity to do so. Many blessings, Sat Nam, Guriurattan Kaur
Guest guest
Dear Gururattan Kaur, Thank you very much for your reply about stretch pose and head hurting, and also the annihilation of the ego - and by that I meant the selfish part of ourselves. I never expected it to be easy or simple I know its the hardest thing one can attempt to do. I just wondered if there were any specific meditation to help the process along. Again, thanks to everyone who answered my questions. Love, Avtar K. ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! Guest guest
Thank you, Gururattan Kaur, for your reply on annihilating the ego. Through about 3 years of therapy, I was forced to face some issues within myself. I was young (21) and was very very "I" oriented at that time. That was also in the 60's which was a very "I" decade. But, in the years after that, I was told that I had been so selfish during that therapy, and I refused to read any kind of self-help or "Me" based literature. Only now am I realizing that just because I decided to survive, does not mean I cannot work on myself any more. Working on self does not have to be selfish! I would add that as we are led to abandon our limited identity, we are called to learn new ways of living, and to gain new skills for relating to others and arranging for the things we need. These new ways skills then replace the "codependent games", etc. One part of the whole transformation is learning very concrete and practical skills for dealing with life. And for some people, this learning is more difficult than the more "spiritual" aspects of the transformation process. Ardas
Guest guest
Dear Avtar Kaur, > I meant the selfish part of ourselves. I never expected it to be easy or simple I know its the hardest thing one can attempt to do. Actually maybe not. It would help not to affirm it being hard. The irony is that we have to be very self abosorbed and self centered to estabish our connection with our Soul and the Divine and realize that we are One. This is not selfilsh, it is smart. What our culture calls selfish is different. To get to sense of our own identity we have totally concentrate on our own energy, take care of ourselves and do what we need to do to. In the process we find our higher identity, quit playing codependent games and trying to get something from outside ourselves. The only way to identify with the Divine is to identify with our Selves. Guest guest
Sat Nam I work on myself daily however, my current job is sooooo stressful that I feel more challenged attempting to stay peaceful and empathic. I deal with frustated, upset and nasty people at least 50 hours a week. It is very hard to stay focused on one's attitude when confronted with having to work my job. I do pray for a career change that I enjoy doing and make a living. Are there any suggested meditiatons for a career change or to remove any negative traits that occur on my job. Much thanks, Ellen
Guest guest
Dear Lightworker, now am I realizing that just because I decided to survive, does not mean I cannot work on myself any more. Survival is the first step. Without it, we wouldn't even be here. Working on self does not have to be selfish! On the contrary, empathy starts with the self. Love starts with self. We are selfish because we are trying to protect ourselves and survive. Actually I don't like that word. It just has too many erroneous concepts attached to it. How about fishing for the Self. The whole basis of Nonviolent Communication starts with the idea that we must be kind, loving and empathetic to ourselves. It is very interested, but it is actually true. When we honor ourselves, we can honor others. THe book by that name is by Marshall Rosenberg . It is good. Energetically we must train ourselves to focus on our own energy, then what we are talking about is possible. So when you do your yoga and at all other times feel the sensations in your body. Over time you will become very present to ME. This is part of developing the Human Sensory Sytem. Guest guest
Sat Nam, Ellen, Somehow I thought your spiritual name was Kartar Kaur, but maybe not. > I work on myself daily however, my current job is sooooo stressful that I feel more challenged attempting to stay peaceful and empathic. Just stay with your own energy and be empathetic to yourself for starters. > I do pray for a career change that I enjoy doing and make a living. I will pray for this too. > Are there any suggested meditiatons for a career change or to remove any negative traits that occur on my job. Do Gurunam's CD on the Triple mantra. It is available on www.yogatech.com. And chant the first one adguray na may, etc during the day to protect yourself with the light of the truth.
