Guest guest
Hello! I happen to know some sanskrit mantras used for blessing food. We have practiced Gaudiya Vaishnavism, also known as Krishna Consciousness. My husband is very much drawn to this path, and I felt like it was more of an exploration for me. Anyway, this tradition has been called the "kitchen religion". Food is very consciously prepared to offer to God, which means for strict cleanliness standards, like no sampling of food as you cook, and then the food is placed on specially designated plates and placed infront of an altar. In a temple there would be deities. Then the food is offered simply or more ornately. One could use the mantra, "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare" (a very nice mantra to use anytime really), or a much longer sanskrit mantra that I could give you if you like. Oh, and ringing a bell during the chanting is standard. We used to then have a "kirtan" together, playing instruments and chanting. Then the food on the special plate has become what is known as "Maha Prasadam" meaning great mercy, and the rest of the food is prasadam (mercy). And it really does taste better. There are of course other ways of blessing food. I was told that chanting the Gobinday Mukunday mantra is good while you cook. Also giving reiki to food is very good. Lately when I cook I am careful to connect with the vegetables, feel their life and consciousness, wake them up with a little water. As far as the offering goes I think having a pure intent would go a long way. There is potency in gurmukhi and sanskrit especially is very ancient and the vibration of the words is that of what they describe. Thus when you say "Krishna" He is dancing on your tounge. I keep reading how blessing and the love you put in to your cooking your food at all stages is very important. So if anyone could share their ritual I'd be greatful. For some reason I am drawn to finding a mealtime grace to say before eating in perhaps gurmukhi. Or one in sanskrit perhaps? However where or if there is one I have no idea. Guest guest
I have heard that chanting Sat Nam over one's food three times before one eats blesses it. As I understand , the value of the food is enhanced by this practice. Blessings, Avtar K. ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less!
