Guest guest
Although still definitely a beginner at this work, I am very interested in the idea of a 40-day set. However, I was wondering how to choose, and what to choose. Should I begin at the bottom, so to speak, with a first chakra exercise, or should I do something that is more intuitively correct: I am thinking of doing stretch pose as the 40-day set for 3 minutes a day, to help with discipline, willpower and overall energy. I have only been practicing KY regularly for a few weeks now, although I had practiced it last year for a while, as well, so I don't want to overload myself--I don't want to burn myself out by setting myself to do something too hard for me right now. BUT things are going so well! In class on Monday, we did a pretty difficult set for the nervous system, and during the sets themselves, time sometimes, and only for a few milleseconds at a time, opened up and became more fluid, and my body and mind became fluid, and the minutes of the sets flew by! I was amazed when it was itme for the deep relaxation at the end! peace to all-- jessie

I think it is very important not to overcommit ourselves, and I think following your intuition is always a good choice (personally, I still have trouble distinguishing my intuition from the voices in my head There are two schools of thought on choosing a 40-day set - my first teacher taught me to pick sets based on the kriyas that gave me the most trouble (physical, emotional, whatever) in class, based n the idea that this is a clue about what one needs to work on the most. Her method works well for me, but other people recommend choosing the kriya that you enjoy the most. I'm sure this approach works great too. I have to say that the kriyas I choose using her method always turn out to be the kriyas I like the most - but perhaps not for the first few weeks > BUT things are going so well! Guest guest
Dear Julie: > Can't you do more then one 40 day set at a time? Of course! It is common for regular practitioners to be working on a physical kriya (or two), as well as different meditations, as part of morning sadhana, and something else entirely for bed-time. Of course, it is also important not to commit ourselves to more than we can handle comfortably, or we can fall into the trap of feeling as if we have failed, or of overdoing and burning out, and so forth. All love surround you, Sadhant
