Guest guest
Good morning. Hi. I have been a silent member of this list for over a month. Opps, i should introduce my name, Im called Muthoni.<pronounced Moo- tho-ni) Its a Gikuyu name , (a bantu tribe in Kenya where i was born and raised. and presently live.) I joined here because i have been searching for spiritual experiences..definations... anything or the other.... I was introduced to the teachings of Osho. and his meditation practises. Needless to say, I engaged in Kundalini meditation. and it was an experience to say the least. And thats why i joined the list, to find out whether it was just me who felt 'something ' spectacular. Reading the posts on these egroup, i cant help but feel alienated. Perhaps, its because from the impression i get, that majority of the Members have been in this for a long time... thats my perception... I desire to learn not only about this practise of meditation. but also about eastern thoughts and practises on spiritaulity. I am yet to meet people who engage in meditation in Kenya. There are 2 meditation centers in Nairobi, (capital city)..but thats about it.. The internet is about the only regular source of information and networking that i have. My question then is, a) Is it possible for someone to direct me on where i can learn more on meditation techniques et al, online.? Is it possible to engage in discussions that folks such as myself, with little knowledge on kundalini and/or other forms of meditation can learn from...like Meditation 101 Class? b) I also want to learn more about Buddhisim. are there any members on the list who are practising buddhists and who wouldnt mind sharing thoughts on this.. i dont mind private emails...? This are my current thoughts. Perhaps this is not where i should be asking all these questions ...(smile)..i just want to learn as much as i can....Eastern spirituality shares alot with african spiritualism...and for me being African..living in the continent, im surrounded by such wonder, magik and interconnectivity.I cannot help but wonder, stare and worship the elements of life.... Hope i have not taken too much of your time.. thank you. In LovingKindess, thoughts from the continent. =========================================
Guest guest
Dear Muthoni, You are very welcome to the group! First of all, let me say I have participated in this group for a long time and we always have new people (new to the group or new to Kundalini Yoga) joining all the time. Please don't feel this group is in any way too "advanced" for you. We are fortunate to have some long-time KY practitioners and teachers who share their knowledge and experience with all of us for the benefit of all. There is another mailing list (run by the same generous people who run this list) that gives you the basics of KY in different lessons. It is an excellent resource if you are starting with KY and you don't have a KY group to learn with where you live. You can obtain the previous lessons online as well. The site is: kundalini yogaclasses.html . You can also to the KY training mailing list from there. You can post questions and discuss the lessons on that list, and also here. I am sure you will find it very helpful. Kundaliniyoga.org has also other resources listed - a number of books, tapes and videos that you can use even if you practice by yourself (as many of us do). Another site to check out is www.yogatech.com (Gururattan Kaur Khalsa's site) which also has a wealth of information, and so does www.3ho.org . Also the archived messages of this group are available online at Kundaliniyoga since the beginning of the group. If you are looking for a certain topic or want to see what has been discussed here before please feel free to check it out. I hope you will find these sites helpful and enjoy your stay with the group! Many blessings, Satsang Kaur
Guest guest
Hello! Greetings to you! I would like to mention in addition to the websites already mentioned to you that you may find http://spiritweb.org helpful. There you would find writings and web links to many various paths of meditation and spirituality including Buddhism. On the left side of the page you will find catagories you can browse through. I found it to be a very helpful starting point on my spiritual journey on the internet. Good morning. Hi. I have been a silent member of this list for over a month. Opps, i should introduce my name, Im called Muthoni.<pronounced Moo- tho-ni) Its a Gikuyu name , (a bantu tribe in Kenya where i was born and raised. and presently live.) Needless to say, I engaged in Kundalini meditation. and it was an experience to say the least. And thats why i joined the list, to find out whether it was just me who felt 'something ' spectacular. Leslie: I do feel that 'something' too. When I try to figure it out and it becomes very difficult for me. So, I am trying to just flow with it. I feel myself going through some very subtle and potent changes and I know it is what I want, but I also have to just surrender to the process. So often here people say, 'I felt this and that and what does it mean and is it right?', and yes it is the kundalini energy moving through them and it may not have ever happened to anyone else quite that way before but it is perfectly normal. So, that is what I tell myself about what I have been experiencing. But it is also important to share what we experience and learn too. That is about the best I can make out of things right now for myself. Muthoni: Reading the posts on these egroup, i cant help but feel alienated. Perhaps, its because from the impression i get, that majority of the Members have been in this for a long time... thats my perception... Leslie: It is true that there is a specific focus on this list and we practice in a specific tradition. Many people are new here, but perhaps you are picking up on what we call the "golden chain" which is what ties teacher to student from the present back into history and lends energy and wisdom. Muthoni: I desire to learn not only about this practise of meditation. but also about eastern thoughts and practises on spiritaulity. I am yet to meet people who engage in meditation in Kenya. Leslie: I have heard as much about Africa. My husband studied afro-latin percussion and learned abour Yoruba and the Orisha's and stuff. There seems to be a very deep thrumming spirituality there and I love to listen to the music! Hope i have not taken too much of your time.. thank you. Love Always, littlebird Leslie
Guest guest
Dear Muthoni, Welcome to our community. > I am yet to meet people who engage in meditation in Kenya. There are 2 meditation centers in Nairobi, (capital city)..but thats about it.. That is something. Begin with what you have. I know there are spiritual women in Kenya. I met Wangari Maathai in Rio in 1992 at the Earth Summit. You might find her and her friends and start meditations with them. (Wangari lead Kenya's Greenbelt Movement to prevent hunger. She seeks to empower women and has been arrested and beaten for her courageous actions. We did healing on her in Rio.) > a) Is it possible for someone to direct me on where i can learn more > on meditation techniques et al, online.? > Is it possible to engage in discussions that folks such as myself, with little knowledge on kundalini and/or other forms of meditation can learn from...like Meditation 101 Class? That is what this list and our KYtraining lessons are all about. Many blessings and Sat Nam, Gururattan Kaur
