Guest guest
Sat Nam, In an email about a week ago someone said there there were 2 ways to do archer pose, one taught by 3ho and kundalini yoga teachers and the hatha version. It is my opinion that there is one basic way to do archer pose and that many of the teachers of KY may not know the correct version. To protect the knee, the knee must always be over the heel, otherwise there is stress on the knee. This is true for yoga postures and the martial arts. As soon as the knee goes over the foot, there is undue stress on the knee. In KY we are taught that we do not see the foot. Most people extend the knee forward so they do not see their foot. This is incorrect. To not see the knee one must go lower in the pose, ideally so that the thigh of the bent leg is parallel to the ground. There are alot of benefits to this pose if it is done correctly. YB told us it makes us courageous. Try it with the leg parallel to the ground and you will know why. Guest guest
Dear Gururattan Kaur, In frog the knee is not over the heel - I've a friend who is a physical trainer who also teaches KY and she refuses to do frog for this reason. She says it is dangerous and will eventually wear out the kneecap - which is not something that can be fixed. I'd be grateful for your comments. I think people will have to decide for themselves on this one. I haven't felt frogs were a problem for my knees, but I don't do them for too long. I think we each have to be aware of our own bodies.
