We don't post many virus alerts on here, but this one is a real menace and

is spreading rapidly. I thank Boogie Jack's virus warning service for this

report.

 

You will not catch any such viruses from any messages on this list - all

message attachments are removed automatically. This is why they are removed!

1) VBSWG.X

 

Alias: Homepage Virus

 

This is another worm generated with a virus tool kit. That's right, there

are tool kits out now so any half-wit can create viruses. It is made with

the same virus tool kit that was used to create the Anna Kournikova virus,

and is very similar.

 

This new virus emails itself to the people in your Outlook address book(s).

It will have a:

 

Subject line of: Homepage

Message of: You've got to see this page! It's really cool ;O)".

 

The attached virus will be Homepage.HTML if your system doesn't show hidden

file extensions, or Homepage.HTML.vbs if your system is set to show hidden

extensions. That's why this kind of virus is so successful, users think it's

a simple HTML page from a friend, when it's really an executable file. I'd

recommend you set your PC to show all extensions, then you shouldn't be

fooled by this type of virus.

 

To set your PC to show hidden files:

 

1) Go to Start/Control Panel.

2) Click View/Folder Options.

3) Click the View tab.

4) Under Hidden files, select the Show all files radio button.

5) Click apply.

 

Now your system should show a .vbs extension if you receive this type of

virus agaim.

 

If you open the attachment the worm will mail itself to all your contacts.

After this, the worm attempts to open one of four x-rated web pages. It can

also overload email servers and of course, cause bad blood if someone opens

the virus thinking you're sending them a cool web page.

 

This virus is spreading very rapidly.
