Guest guest
Hi Hallie: > What is DHEA? Dehydroepiandrosterone is a steroid hormone produced in the adrenal gland. It is the most abundant steroid in the bloodstream and is present at even higher levels in brain tissue. DHEA levels are known to fall precipitously with age, falling 90% from age 20 to age 90. DHEA is known to be a precursor to the numerous steroid sex hormones (including estrogen and testosterone) which serve well-known refunctions, but the specific biological role of DHEA itself is not so well understood. It seems to be helpful in reducing the effects of aging, cancer protection, appetite control, improved brain function, improved immune system function, menopause and post-menopausal issues (particularly bone density), etc. The important thing to know about taking DHEA is that every person is different, so (although everybody shows big age-related drops in DHEA serum levels) dosing is very individual, and blood tests before and during dosing are essential. Correcting blood measurements to young- adult levels shows big benefits, but it is a steroid, and taking more than one should is probably not a good idea. Many blessings, Sadhant
