Guest guest
At one time I was looking into studying Falun Gong, a form of spiritual Chi-Gong. I was advised to stop studying the other forms of energy cultivation that I was interested in, including Karate, Jiu- Jitsu, Tai Chi, Kundalini Yoga and Wild Goose Chi Gong. I was told that they could interfere with the Falun (Law Wheel) that would be forming in my dantien (center) as a result of the exercises. I chose not to pursue Falun Gong for this, and other reasons. My question is whether or not these other exercises could be interfering with my Yoga. I have already heard the old adage "Jack of all trades, Master of none"; it's just that I love all of these arts dearly and it's hard to imagine giving any of them up. They really do seem to compliment each other nicely. Thanks for the time, Mal Wagner
Guest guest
I have often heard, "If you do this, you can't do that; if you do that, you can't do this...." While not totally ignoring such caveats, I've found in general that the dangers presented are amplified. I learned the routines of falun, practice them, and find in them a brilliant edit of earlier Buddhist and Taoist chikung methods. They are an extremely powerful series. Personally, I haven't found conflict between them and various Indian/Sikh yogic methods; I didn't feel I had to stop various yogas or tai chi or other chi-kung methods just because I was learning falun. My sense is that all of these ways which come to modern practitioners from all over the world are pieces of a puzzle. Each person according to temperment and intuition may put the pieces together slightly differently from his neighbor. I am not threatened if another seeker in sincerity builds a different sadhana model from mine. Instead, I celebrate our diversity. Master Li (chief exponent of the falun system) may not approve of me, but I deeply approve of him.
