Guest guest
Does anyone have any experience with how the eye kriyas can help? I am very near-sighted (ok when corrected with contacts) and especially at the end of the day when it starts to get dark my eyesight gets weaker. Additionally I work at a computer all day and this puts a strain on my eyes. How could kundalini eye work help? sat nam kristin

KY exercises can help your eyes because they work with the optic nerve and its energy equivalent in what is called "the subtle body" or the pranic body. I spend more than 14 hours at a computer and have some eye problems as well so I understand what you are referring to. A few exercises that I found of help are below: 1. sit it easy pose and place the palms together in prayer pose at chest level (your forearms should be parallel to the floor), fingers pointing straight up. Without bending your neck, look with both eyes at your thumbs. Stay in this pose and do long deep breathing for 6-11 mins. 2. Sit on your heels and have your arms extended at shoulder level in front of you, palms up. Incline your head back as much as is comfortable and look at the ceiling, straight up. Breath of fire for 1-3 minutes. Don't blink in this pose, even if your eyes water. 3. Tratakam exercises: without blinking, look at a small object (a candle flame is often used) placed before you at eye level, at least 3 feet away from you. Concentrate on the object and don't blink or look away. This is best done for 5 minutes or more. Your eyes might water and even hurt a bit in the beginning, but will feel much better after a few minutes. 4. For eye pain this meditation is recommended: sit in lotus pose or easy pose, with hands on the knees in gyan mudra. Apply neck lock, close your eyes and concentrate at the third eye point. Roll your tongue back in your mouth and do long deep breathing. As you inhale, apply root lock and visualize the sound "Sat" rising up the spine. Think "Nam" out of the top of the head as you exhale. This exercise works on the optic nerve as well as the various chakras. 5. A few other things that you can do at your office: remember to take your eyes off the monitor and look into the distance for a few seconds every 5-10 minutes. If your visual range is limited to basically your desk this is bad for the eyes. Neck rolls and long deep breathing also help by eliminating tension in your neck and thus helping bring more blood and oxygen to the eyes. 6. Ergonomics: make sure that your eyes fall perpendicularly on the monitor (adjust the monitor angle and / or your chair height), set the monitor refresh rate to the highest setting (this reduces the amount of screen "flickering"), and consider wearing UV-cut glasses. I don't mean colored sunglasses, but regular UV-cut lenses, which you can probably find quite easily. If your office has neon lights and you work with a CRT monitor especially, you need to protect your eyes as best as you can. These have worked wonderfully for me and I don't get the pain I used to feel before at the end of the day. Many blessings, Satsang Kaur
Guest guest
Hi Kristin, This may or may not be yoga, but it helps me. I call it "push-ups for the eyes";-) Hold your thumb in front of your eyes (appx. 1 1/2 feet away),place another object on the other side of your thumb at least 10-15 feet away, rapidly-alternate focusing on the thumb then on the other object, bringing each into full focus (try one minute sets to start off). This will strengthen the muscles that are responsible for "depth-of-field". Experiment with different distances.
